Yeah, most of those MREs were terrible back in the 90s when I was in the military. I always had to use the small bottle of hot sauce in order to make the entree edible. The absolute worst one was the Ham & Cheese Omelette. Can you imagine the taste of those artificial eggs? Absolutely dreadful.

The Frankfurters meal was the worst. Known as the Four Fingers of Death. The hot sauce was Tabasco brand in the later meals. Most people carried a small bottle when in the field or deployed. Anything carried with you into the field was known as 'pogey bait'. A lot of guys subsisted on pogey bait for the couple of weeks of annual training or weekend warrior type exercises versus having to rely on MRE's. Myself I always had sunflower seeds, extra gum, and hard candy like Jolly Ranchers. Still have a case or two seasoning for the zombie apocalypse.
