Carano as She Hulk

30 Jan 2020 22:21 #66654 by Markiehoe
Carano as She Hulk was created by Markiehoe
She killed it in the Mandalorean.
I think she could do She Hulk with the right script that plays to her strengths.

I'm in, but I would like you all to think who could play a good Jen Walthers.

I can see it, and also not see it :)

My only thought would be, at 5'6", she may be a little short to portray She-Hulk.  (Clearly CG would be needed, so it could be offset by that).

She certainly has the body type imo :)  And yes, was great in Mandalorian :)

Peace.

Maybe they can use some creative camera angles?  ;)

Camera angles certainly could be used, as well as other perspective tricks :)

My choice would be Elizabeth Debicki (who was my personal choice to play Capt. Marvel incidently :P ).  She stands at 6'2" and has been in GOTG 2, as well as Man From UNCLE.  She would need to bulk up a bit for sure :)

Going outside the realm of actors,  my choice would be Maria Wattel.  She is a dutch (I believe) female bodybuilder and at 6'2" is the tallest female bodybuilder in the world (if I remember right).  She would be perfect imo :)

Those would be my choices for the casting :)

Peace.

These are all well and good for She-Hulk, but what about Jen in her human form?

Don't forget that Carano can act and deliver lines and deliver some emotion on-screen, which might not be true for your bodybuilder types. Given that Shulkie has a real personality when she's green, you need something more than a flex, smash and bash type. I like the personality she's shown on screen in the past.

Whatever she lacks can be compensated for in special effects.

I would have no problem with Gina as She Hulk the entire movie.

no matter, if it's a show or movie what they will do, is go with a good looking slim actress to play jen and a CGI she-hulk, it's been proved that the CGI hulk can be done well so why not just go with that for anything else green.

Oh I totally agree :)  I was using Wattel as an example of someone who I feel would look good as She Hulk, without a need for CGI.   She Hulk isnt always represented as Banner-Hulk enormous :)  At times, she looks like a regular FBB, and Wattel most certainly fits that.  Looks wise (she's not an actress as far as I know) :)

But yeah, Fats is probably right, they will cast Jen and CGI She Hulk.  Ordinarily, this would probably be expensive for a TV show, but its Disney and Marvel.  They have shed loads of it to burn, so have at it :P

Peace.

I would also suspect that CGI is getting cheaper and faster all the time, thanks to better computers and software and more artists coming into the field. Anyone know if that's actually true for mainstream studios?

15 years ago it used to take a week per server to render a frame of CGI they used to use over  100 servers in a server farm to render footage, now they can render a frame of CGI in about 6 minutes per server.  take for example monsters inc. that film had real fur to render and that took a day to calculate the path of the hair as the body moved, then the hair had to be rendered and that took 3 days to do and that was for each frame, now you can do that on a titan RTX GPU in your desktop pc in near real-time.

The cost of CGI has gone down to such a level that what once used to cost $$$$$ per second now costs $ per second to produce, AI has now gotten into the act as well, you can use that work out what needs to be rendered and what can be skipped, AI can also be used to add stuff that was never there just look at the pandemonium over Deepfakes and that was done in people bedrooms on desktop PC's.

So, in short, the cost has dropped hugely and the quality has risen to levels not thought possible just 5 years ago and we are still developing more ways to do CGI at a cheaper and better rate.

If you are doing buildings, spaceships, inanimate objects, its pretty cheap now to get excellent results for a cheap price.

Doing a full human character, to get a realistic representation, still takes time and thus money.  Its the hardest thing to do in CGI.

And even then, no one has cracked the perfect representation.  Tarkin in Rogue One is probably the closest, but even that was still uncanny valley territory :)

Maybe you can get away with She Hulk a bit as the green skin tone can offset some of that.

Peace.

They could just spray paint Gina green and use camera tricks to make her look taller and i would be a happy man.
I like the 1980 style She Hulk

not her modern Hulked out version.

Although this is all true, there are still a few issues that are still very much a problem. One of the worst offenders in the early days of CGI and still a problem nowadays is weight. Unless the artist is incredibly skilled and/or anal about details, the actual feeling of weight is one of the hardest things to manufacture.
Just to give you a bit of context, think of the Xenomorph Queen from Aliens, the "puppet" was about 6 meters tall and required I don't know how many puppeteers. As a result, in the movie, the queen moves have a certain weight, wrecking the enviroment, you know that she (or it) is no pushover. Now compare that with the Queen from Alien vs Predator (yes, I kow it's a terrible movie), which was all CGI. That Queen moved around as if she weighted nothing, leaping around like a grasshoper and moving across ice with no problem. I don't know about you but that moment pulled me right out of my suspension of disbelief, not because it was unrealistic (she is a fictional creature), but because I felt a disconnection betwee what the scene meant and what I was seeing. Instead of making the queen look powerful and agile, those leaps made her look like what she was: an electronic ghost.

I suspect that the day the uncanny valley is crossed by a fully CGI character who is portraying a normal, emotive human is going to be a hell of a celebration. Haven't seen anything close yet... but continuous improvement is obvious.

But the day will surely come when the CGI of an ordinary actor in a normal human role will fool our eyes. But its a tall order given that one of our great survival traits has always been judging falseness in expression, body language, spoken language, etc. etc. Our eyes automatically detect the tiniest almost invisible traits, and without any training. That survival trait must go way, way back in our DNA.

It's a pretty neat skill if you think about it.

But it's exciting what could be done in the way of fantastic movies if they ever do manage to figure it out. It will revolutionize the movie business. Won't need actors, stunt doubles, special effects, etc. I can't wait.

Especially given what could do for our genre !!!

I really need to see Mandalorian.

I guess I'm the wet blanket.  Her name keeps coming up, and I keep thinking "I hope not".  I've not been impressed by her in her movies where she was the star (Haywire, In the Blood).  (At least not the level to do She-Hulk/Jennifer justice.)   She was better in Deadpool but wasn't carrying the movie.  I just thought she needed to do the work.  Her resume shows she's been in movies with some good actors, so maybe she's doing it.  She did seem to have improved in Deadpool, so she is on the right trajectory.

And, of course, I've not seen Mandalorian, which people are saying good things about her.

If I heard Marvel is chosing her though, I'd think that based on Marvel's casting record, that they were pretty confident she could deliver what they needed.

I honestly don't know who they'll pick or should be picked.  I do hope for some left-field choice that people aren't talking about like kikass2014's suggestion of Elizabeth Debicki  or Jameela Jamil (also 5'11, w/ good comedic acting chops).

the only one that I would pic for she-hulk is Gwendoline Christie, she has the acting talent and she is tall enough for the role.

Tahani from The Good Place :)

Excellent choice Twice :)  As well as having good comedic timing, she is also gorgeous (imo ofc :) )

I personally hope they DON'T go for Christie.  I just don't see her as the character tbh,

Peace.
