A Supergirls patreon/kickstarter/Go fund me/Charity event/other crowd funding

05 Sep 2018 18:45 - 05 Sep 2018 18:45 #60977 by ChaozCloud
Just a random idea that popped into my head.

So in todays day and age it feels like everyone has some kinda of crowdfunding campaign going on. So why not a story about a supergirls venture into it?

Ideas that can be worked into this.
- Girls power could be based on the amount of donations she is getting
- Stretch goals could be her doing different feats of powers and uploading videos of it for her fans. From bar bending, to being shot by a gun, to having a car crash into her, to stopping a train or having her other super friends do something fun with her and maybe even to something as riddiculous as eating a star.
- High amount donors being able to request her to do something specific and she must do it. For example, "There is a treasure at the bottom of the Etna volcano, please bring it to me" or something like "My husband cheated on me so I want you to break his car".
- Good girl vs Bad girl donation war. Basically have her personailty somehow directly linked to the donations. This would cause her to sometimes have major personality shifts, due to someone making a big donation to one of the sides. Which could cause some very weird situations.
- Her patreons/donors reactions and thoughts about what she is doing could be a major part of the story. Do they like what she is doing? Do they start fearing her? How does she react to it? Maybe internet trolls thinks it's a good idea to troll a person who is powerful enough to pick up a tank.
- Could be about funding some kind of way of making someone into a superhuman, the progress and how they reward their generous donors based on the stretch goals.
- Feels like this is something that would work for both a good super and a bad super, with the stretch goals being less conscious about collateral damage or just more destructive for the bad girl.

Sadly I don't think my wordsmithing skills are up to par and hopefully one of the talented writers on this site finds this concept interesting :-)

I would totally support something in that vein. A girl, a costume. Money goes for an editor, or to buy special effects software and props. If anyone is up, you get my support

This sound very much like the Growth Drives on Deviantart.

I think there is a misunderstanding.
The patreon/crowd funder wouldn't exist IRL, it's just a plot device inside the story.

Still, there are some good analogies.

I might be talking out of school here but didn't someone try and do this on this forum this year and it was a resounding failure......

I don't believe that the original idea was about actually raising money, I'm only interested in it as a story concept, anyway. It will be a story about crowdfunding driving transformations.

Not quite. It was one of AuGoose's test pieces in his Honking thread , starting with  this post .

Sort of. The people behind Blue Stone Productions who do those peril videos and were posting here quite a lot for a while tried to setup a campaign to create a short film centered around girl power rather than simply re-editing one of their peril films. I do not believe that they used Kickstarter but instead did some kind of pledge statement thing on the forum. Either way, it did not go anywhere as there were not enough pledges to support a film.

I believe the artist Shade tried to do something similar with Kickstarter and creating a comic. However, I think he put out one comic and moved on to other things. Something also changed in that process too. I remember a few people upset at Shade for some reason, and other members of this forum have had bad experiences with him on delivering paid commissions in a timely fashion or not done to their specifications.

Patreon seems to be a much better bet on something like that. CutterTX has been putting out work fairly consistently over time. The Lady Valiant comic went to full color from black and white after gaining a lot of subscribers, and still retains a link to the SWM to this day. There are a few others but they vary by people's taste. The problem is that this tends to be a very niche genre. Wicked City Girls was putting out some high quality material, but they eventually slowed and stopped production. I believe this was because the money was just not there to continue things and be profitable. I have heard this from several other content makers. At best, they make a couple hundred bucks for their work before some jerk posts it on a pirate site. The people behind HeatherEffect and Wicked City Girls actually had to threaten legal action to someone who was doing that and the pirate website hosting the content.

In theory, you would think it would work great for people that do projects every now and then like Project Superwoman or JonX's work. If the kickstarter campaign works out, then there is funding to produce a short film. The problem comes down to deadlines and expectations. A kickstarter campaign gives customers a certain expectation that the product funded will be made and released in a timely manner. If life gets in the way, then customers start getting angry. JonX and Random can pretty much create and release as their time permits. If a project falls through or work gets in the way of a deadline, oh well. Nothing has been promised yet so nobody can get upset that something got delayed for a few months. JonX experienced this first hand as he started slipping on getting new content out to the websites he maintained with monthly membership.

It's well past the test phase now: www.superwomenmania.com/index.php?option...s-of-fame&Itemid=568

The concept feels quite similar to Marknews The Super One - www.superwomenmania.com/index.php?option...super-one&Itemid=228
even though it predates kickstarter by several years.
