Here's an interesting story of real super strength I just read. They really do live among us.

They don't just admit anyone to the Air Force Academy.

I spent a year there in the early 70's working on staff. Don't recall any female cadets at that time, but they certainly did focus on physical fitness.

Combine extreme fitness with hysterical strength...

What impressed me further was that she jumped into the burning truck after lifting it off her dad to drive it away from the house before it could explode.

Oh yeah... she's going to fly fighters, the dream of every Air Force cadet. Glad she's on our side.

In fulfilling my Voluntary Public Service obligation, I founded a charity called
Winds of Change to help underprivileged children worldwide. This charity has
raised over $104,200 to date. I also perform as “Daisy D. Clown” for orphans,
attempting to bring some joy into their troubled and challenging lives. For Personal
Development, I completed FAA Aviation Ground School, became fluent in two
languages, earned advanced SCUBA certifications, and continued my classical
training as a violinist. Additionally, I completed Junior ROTC training and during
one summer completed leadership training at all three US Military Academies –
Army (West Point), Navy (Annapolis), and the Air Force Academy. For Physical
Fitness, I taught myself how to pole vault, where I broke my high school record,
earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and became a junior Olympic medalist in
both sports. I also wrote and teach a rape prevention/self defense class for teenagers,
based upon my martial arts training, which I call “Pred-X” (Predator X). For my
Expedition, I organized, led, and/or participated in trips to all seven continents,
including a true expedition to Antarctica where I journeyed well below the Antarctic
Circle. My experience with the Congressional Gold Award directly led me, at age
16, to a full-time position working for the premiere U.S. intelligence agency.

Lets see... full time job at CIA at age 16 (what do they need 16 year olds for?), Air Force Academy cadet now, lifts flaming truck off her dad and drives truck to safety before it explodes.

Advanced Scuba, plays violin, black belt, junior Olympian in two sports (one self-taught), founds and runs a public service foundation. etc. etc.

There are clearly some amazing people among us. Genetic gifts are NOT distributed evenly.

But then, that's been the focus of innumerable books, TV shows and movies. Whether it's crewmen on space ships to spies and warriors... or in the case of speculative fiction, we get X-Men and SHIELD, etc. Exceptional people need to do exceptional things.

It's always nice to be reminded that there is an undercurrent of reality to all the speculative fiction. Humans have a pretty big dynamic range, and the handful of people who are six sigma out from the mean are pretty amazing.

It's not hard to envision some further tweaks that extend all this to the limits of our imagination. Maybe someday we will truly find a way, or as in the case of my fiction, some aliens will help us along. Or maybe they already are.
