That is a hell of a lot of money for a limited copy print run.

It depends on the size of the final book, but I agree it's a lot of money.

It is a 175 page graphic novel, not just a comic book.
They also have a nice breakdown of costs on the page. They're speccing out money for advertising and reward shipping which seem pretty mature and realistic to me. I read lots of creators on how they're stressing out on shipping all the rewards out. I think they won't have any stress ... they're going to pay other people to do it. Also, some fail to properly account for shipping and that bites them in the end.
The publishing looks to cost 3G, and they're going to pay 5G to artists for pencils, inks, lettering and coloring. That seems pretty cheap for 172 pages.
That they are taking all this into account makes me feel even better about supporting them.
Here are some actual costs from other projects:
Die Kitty Die had a 25k ask (3 comics released as a graphic novel, though I think they ran over so much that now everyone gets a free hardback)
Hype from Jimmy Palmiotti was 26k for a 52 page comic.
Paradox girl was 10k for 2 comics
I think most comic kick starters are $5000-$10,000 for a single issue. So I don't see this being that far out of line.
And obviously more if you involve larger names like Palmiotti.
Anyway, I like supporting things like this so I chipped in. I hope they make their total.

No. Just no.
*sigh* Names only three letters long, it's not hard to get right. If I wanted to be "Teddy" then that's what it'd say in my Kickstarter profile....
Still going to support the project, but I admit I did have a moment of WTF. Probably has Ted in the family that likes to go by "Teddy", there are all kinds. OTH, I was never a 'Teddy' even as a child. (might be because it's longer than my name.)
Should be used to it by now, my kindergarten teacher couldn't spell 'Ted' either (She thought it was spelled "Theodore", and then told me my mother was lying to me about my name.).
Really, I find this humorous. My name gives me great humor. Like "Name some famous Ted's". Try it, and see what you come up with. "All Ted's are crazy" .... is the simple extrapolation that I get from the set.
Anyway, the creator is pretty responsive...
