Marvel takes the "She-" out of She-Hulk for new title HULK

19 Sep 2016 23:41 #50331 by TwiceOnThursdays
I've always liked that of all the hulks, She-Hulk is the one that is comfortable in her skin, and really enjoys being a Hulk. She did go through a rather exuberant period of just enjoying being the She-Hulk, before returning to law and finding more balance between her current and former life.

BUT ... the pitch for this is pretty spot on. After what she's just gone through, anyone would be having some anger problems. And a Hulk with anger problems? That's a big deal.

And, like the Hulk, she's been shown to morph before (sometimes quickly, as lately, she's been slim, until she needs strength, and then bulks up). But she's been grey, monstrous, etc.

So, this could be really good, and a nice change of pace from her normal story telling. It could also be really horrible. Since I have every coming that has "She-Hulk" in the title, I'll be picking this up, even though it's "Hulk".

But, what personally excites me is this quote from the artist Nico Leon:

“I love to draw normal life. I am very excited to be able to draw the day-to-day life of a superhero who needs not to be a superhero all the time," said Leon. "And I am super excited to explore how her new status quo will affect her life and thus her personality and how it will manifest through her body language and interactions with common people and heroes alike.”

I love that sort of thing.

I think Cyndi Lauper might have something to sing, er, say about this...

Well I see her every day with her huge green look
In the pages of a Marvel comic book
I hear they're thinking of a new name for her
Something silly that fills me with horror
Ooh She Hulk, She Hulk!

Do I want her to hulk out with a mighty roar
Huh, yeah, watch her shred another Christian Dior
Hey, they say that a stitch in time saves nine
But for Jen it's a new suit she's buyin'
Ooh She Hulk, She Hulk!

She Hulk, he hulk, and we hulk
I Hulk, you hulk, and they hulk
Smash, crunch, slam, toss, bad guys sulk
I think she should stay SHE HULK...
She Hulk, he hulk, and we hulk
I Hulk, you hulk, we ALL hulk
I think she should stay SHE HULK.

I just realized that the writer Mariko Tamaki, is also the one doing the new Supergirl Title "Supergirl Being Super" also out in December.

comicboxcommentary.blogspot.com/2016/09/...irl-being-super.html

I love the opening shot of Supergirl flying upside down. I think this comic is also going to be interesting. It's good that she's got a comics background, but not one from Marvel or DC. Diversity is good, and it's not just all the big stats -- it's pulling in writers from outside the normal superhero comics world.

Curiously, her credit for Hulk has made her IMDB page, but not for Supergirl Being Super, which was announced awhile ago (and i'm pretty sure it had a thread here).

It may only be a four issue limited series, but she's writing two of my favorite characters at the same time ...

It could just be stylizing for the cover, but I suspect it's not.

The original Hulk was grey with black hair, he morphed over time into the green hulk that people are more familiar with. Even then he looks physically different at different times, that's artist preference in other characters, it's canon in Hulk that his psychological state affects what the Hulk looks like. (Established in the Peter David run, and used a lot since then.)

This HAS been shown for Jen a few times, she's mostly just fairly centered so gets the same(ish) green she-hulk.

So I suspect the short answer is: "Yes, for the time being, but the green she-hulk will be back." With the switch to the title of Hulk, the topic of the comic, changing her coloring to the primal Hulk makes sense.

I like that we get to see a Savage Jennifer again for the first time in a while. It's ashame that it is after the Civil War II storyline. I hope we get transformations as part of her new "savage" side.

What will she do if we don't buy her book this time?

This always made me wonder. I have some valuable X-men comics, but I can replace them, probably in better condition than before!

OTH, a visit from She-Hulk? Priceless!

They should draw a cover where she rips the "She" out of the title and SMASHES it.

Srsly. She can trash my entire collection and my action figures and I'd be happy just to be in the same room.

My crazy calico cat would bite her ankles, though. Not sure how that would work out...

"If there is a light at the end of the tunnel, Jennifer's gonna have to search for it..."

ANOTHER Marvel title where the main character is a traumatized jerk. Great. Wonderful.

EFF. THAT. [EXPLETIVE DELETED]. CRAP.
