Most of you probably know a new Supergirl comic series is coming.  Yesterday a preview of the first several pages was released:

One of many sources:
comic-watch.com/news/news-watch-first-lo...-releasing-june-15th
  • The art is great.
  • The coloring is great.
  • The style of the belt on the costume on the cover I could do without.
  • The de-powered under a red sun story line I could do with less of ~ but maybe that's just the way the story starts and builds.
  • I know some people don't like the drunk Supergirl alone on her birthday part but I can handle it for a few panels.
  • Before he rips her shirt/coat with the sword did he stab her in the arm?  The noise bubble indicates it went in, maybe?
  • Earth birthday?  Kyrpton birthday?
  • Next comic:  Supergirl on planet that resembles the wild west?
  • Anyone else feel like we've seen this story before?

Maybe a Firefly-type wild-west world coming up? And a start that has the flavor of a Red Sonja rag?

With a Supergirl who is clearly from Earth? And slightly older than sometimes depicted, at age 21.

On a quest? With her dog as her companion, who looks like one of my yellow Labs?

Some of the themes aren't new, but it appears the writers are putting together something with potential. Intriguing enough that I'm in for the ride.

PS: Agree on the belt. More like an Amazonian girdle.

Right out of the gate.
Drunk and Supergirl don't go together for me.

Right out of the gate.
Drunk and Supergirl don't go together for me.

She’s on a primitive red-sun planet without her powers, in a very rough ancient style of pub, and it’s her 21st birthday. Without powers she can get drunk, although I rather doubt the barkeep cares in the slightest what her age is.

And she’s doing the whole Red Sonja thing. which I thought was really fun too.

Sounds like we’re going to see her going to a number of planets with radically different cultures.

What’s most fun with Supergirl for me is reinventing her periodically, especially if they hold on to her core Kryptonian upbringing and values. That gets even more interesting when she is entering extremely different cultures with different concepts of morality.

Someone else has watched the preview and got a very "cinematographic" way to tell what's (as he sees) looks like at least for now...
