Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes

18 Dec 2005 16:33 #3870 by argonaut
Evidently Supergirl -- or a Supergirl -- will be joining the Legion of Super-Heroes in March ... and getting top billing in the Legion's own series.

newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=52337

She looks like the current Supergirl, but writer Mark Waid isn't discounting the possibility that she might be Power Girl, or a 31st-century descendant of Kara's, or -- my speculation -- Daxamite Laurel Gand (Andromeda), who's been absent from LSH continuity for a while ...

If it is Kara, does this mean the end of her new solo title, or will she shuttle back and forth between our time and the 31st century?

I guess we'll have to wait for the dust from Infinite Crisis to settle.

Anyone know anything else about this?

It appears to be merely a way to stick someone from the superman family with the LSH in an attempt to boost sales. (Wasn't the comic called "SuperBOY and the Legion of Superheroes" at some point?)

But the SG solo title seems in good shape, though. (SG #3 just made the top 5 in total sales). And SG #7 will debut Gregg Rucka (former WW writer) as its new writer. It'll also have PG in it (just in case someone was thinking that PG was going to bite it on IC).

However, WW will be biting the dust after IC (or at least her comic will). Most likely they'll reboot her and start over. My guess is that she'll be back to using the Diana Prince identity.

Yes, it was, and I think you're right -- DC is probably using Supergirl (the star of one of their best-selling titles) to draw more readers to the Legion. Hey, I'll go wherever she goes (although I've been following the new Legion series from the beginning).

It's nice to know that the post-Crisis DC universe will have room for Supergirl and Power Girl -- and a third (?) super-girl in the 31st century.

It's unlikely that DC will jettison Wonder Woman (one of its flagship triumverate) -- it will be interesting to see what's in store for her. (I'm guessing that Paradise Island and the other Amazons and a lot of the mythological baggage will get the heave-ho.)

Time, as usual, will tell ...

It seems like what's old is new again as far as the DCU goes.

M-I-C, K-E-Y, M-O-U-S-E!

I'm sure glad I'm not into DC fan fiction, and thus not bound by all these mindless machinations. No wonder the comics are in decline. Same thing, oddly enough, with daytime soap operas -- no respect for characters or relationships, just arbitrary plot twists and crises.

It's like they're usually random number generators to lay out their new "strategy."

I have read WW for years but I gave up a couple ago. About every two to three they were re-inventing her and I just got tired of it. Bad writing, decent art, no originality.
