report on what went wrong and where we are at.

Hi all,

OK Sunday didn't go as well as I expected, I was expecting to add a ton of patches and give the site a clean up and a new colour scheme and be done, what actually transpired was a number of issues with the database (DB) that required the DB to be rebuilt along with the site files and menu.

The DB rebuild required over 6 hours of work the files took another 2 and other work took 2 more, and I'm still not done, the menu still needs the universe and workshop menu items restored, the IM system is acting up so that will take some time to sort. Thanks to grayface for letting me know about the comments section being overloaded with spam, I've taken the comments off-line to clear out the spam and put in to place protection.

You will notice that the site is a little faster this is due to the wordpress blog on the front page slowing the site down, that is now gone, and we are for the time being going back to K2 for the front page blog, one thing that the new blog wont have is any comments, this is again due to spam comments, what I did not know was the level of spam that was there, 489,642 spam comments over 1GB of data in the DB.

So for now the forum is the only place that comments about blog, stories and the image libraries (when they are restored) will be accepted. For stories what I'm proposing is that when a new story is posted a forum thread be created as well, so any comments can be posted there, I feel that the forum is better placed for discussions on stories and allows for more interaction.

One thing that I was going to do is change the site's colours but I cant think of a good palette for the site so I'm opening it up to all members, go to coolors.co and produce a palette for the site and share it in this thread and the one that people most like will be the new palette.

I'll be tweaking the logo and menu today to make it match up in layout as it looks awful.

On the issue of story submissions please, do not stop or pause in your submissions, as I said in my blog post, the main elements of the site are still there, the library still works and will always be my main priority when it comes to making sure the site is working.

My real life job is currently taking up most of my time at the moment, so I can't dedicate as much time to the site as I would like but be assured that I'll do what ever I can. :)
