I struggle with this story a bit.

The men who crewed ships in those days, especially pirate ships, were an unsavory (in all the ways) men who were jammed together under horrible conditions on those ships. On pirate ships, they were violent and aggressive men ready for a fight, and many of those fights didn't wait for their conquest of another ship or some town. Work on a ship was incredibly physical, testing the strongest men and fights ended with blood.

Not to mention living among an entire crew of horny men prone to the worst excesses of behavior around women, with their idea of "a fun date" being drunken gang rape in some alleyway or on a ship they just took if any women were unlucky enough to be aboard.

So how do two "beautiful women" blend in with those cutthroats, hiding their sex under some clothing, and never get noticed, even after months at sea?  These people didn't exactly have private cabins, and the bathroom was a bucket on the floor in heavy seas or the side of the ship otherwise.

My guess is that these women, if the story has any truth, looked as rough and scarred and heavy-limbed and muscular as the men, and too ugly to ever be regarded as female. They could fight and climb the rigging and work on the ship under those terrible, cramped conditions like a man. Even then, its hard to buy.

Of course, if Hollywood makes a movie of this, they'll likely be played by someone like Brie Larson or some other slender, highly feminine woman who wouldn't last two minutes in the clutches of pirates.

But it's a nice fantasy... especially given you have to get the women to superhuman levels to believe it.

The wikipedia article mentions Lost Pirate Kingdom which was just released on Netflix May 15.   Anne Bonny is played by a Mia Tomlinson.   There is another youtube video which has scenes from the last episode.  Here's a preview video

and a netflix website www.netflix.com/title/81035118   which has 2 previews

Just found this today so can't comment on it.  From the 2 previews Anne Bonny appears female.  Would guess this would make the series more marketable also not likely to have much potential for superwomen.
