A lot easier to deal with than PayPal, at least if you're a frequent Amazon shopper like I am.

That usually works for me for other donation and fundraiser sites I deal with. I can see the goal and where we are at. I still prefer operating on a donation model and this approach is proven to work. If there are unexpected expenses or special purchases required (like a software package), then update the budget on that same quarterly (or whatever) schedule.
I personally don't like ads, and I will block them, and instead donate from time to time, especially if I can see what's needed.
I know that when I ran the AU and it was popular (the crashing web servers kind of popular), I refused ads and refused to link to any site that required payment to participate. But I'm a bit of a dinosaur. Despite being an accomplished capitalist, there is still this socialist side of me that keeps wanting to get out. A utopia where everyone contributes and consumes to the best of their abilities without dollar signs. (Beyond what's required to run the site, that is.)
SWM has run that way up to now, and we just have to fix the funding issue.

There could be a page of various SWM friendly material on Amazon, if users went there and bought through the links it'd help fund the site. It can also be useful for people to find some comics, movies, etc that they might not have thought about.

You know theres nothing wrong with periodically asking "Hey we need money this time, can you possibly donate now". Theres nothing shameful in that. You know do it every quarter or every year, and making a post about it.
Simple enough.
Nothing wrong with Banner Ads, but i think that should be able to draw enough money.

I think as a community of both creatives and consumers, we have an opportunity for more than one method of donation. GoFundIt projects often use exclusive material to entice contributors. We have writers, and artists, and photomanipulators, and video makers, and photographers on this site; would it be possible to ask for a small voluntary donation from them? I'm quite prepared to knock up a couple of exclusive pics per year, attuned to the general interests of this group. I know photographers often shoot hundreds of images in a cosplay session -- would they donate half a dozen raw camera images they've no interest in using?
A single fee of (say) $2 gets that year's swag. Swag contributors get a thank you link on a sub page.
That way a single media contribution could harvest multiple dollar contributions.
Just an idea.

Anyone want a story? Your topics your characters your ideas? comedies, Dramas, sex filled romps where she lifts cheese(specifically goda, Cheader, Spanish Sheep Cheese).
Cheese-lifting is not goudanough.
I want to see our heroine fighting scary muensters.
Think of a cheddar idea.
