Well, it looks after a couple of years break, Texas is gonna get it. I figure we were due, anyway. They have it at a CAT 3 at the moment. It looks like I will be heading out Thursday to higher ground. That means I will probably be out of the loop for a few days. Plus, I'm taking the CPU with me. So, wish me luck!

Well,I'm going to batting down the hatches here. Bought a lot of batteries for the portable radio and stocked the fridge full of water. Now all that's left is to put anything that might be a potential projectile in the garage.

:(

We live on the water. I'm really scared that we may not have a house when we get back. It's a CAT 4 now and most of the models show it hitting just south of us. That means will get the bad side.

Take care, Ultragirl. Our thoughts are with you and your family. Here's hoping that your stuff weathers the storm relatively intact, but just make sure that you keep the family safe.

This thing has turned into a major monster. Not just category 5, but it's now the 3rd most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin. That means it bumped Katrina down to 5th on that list. Scary. :(

Having been through a few of the smaller ones here in Florida over the years, I know how bad these things can be, and I've never personally experienced anything bigger than category 3. I hope those of you in Texas have evacuated if you live anywhere near the coast. Hopefully, your homes will still be there when you get back, but don't count on it. More importantly, make sure everyone is still there to return and find out. Houses and belongings can be replaced. People can't.

Having been thru Andrew, Category 5's are just incredible with the destruction they can cause. It took years for South Miami/Homestead to completely recover from it. And this one seems to have "Andrew-esque" strength and "Katrina-esque" size --- a terrifying combo.

Even down here in South Florida where hurricanes/tropical storms are expected, we tend to get complacent after a while and "forget" what they can do after a series of near misses. If anything good could be said of Katrina, I think its fresh in people's minds and is causing them to have a newfound respect for this one.

For anyone on the Gulf Coast in Texas, stay safe and god speed!
