SGI Workshop Topic Question

14 Nov 2007 16:11 #10870 by lfan
SGI Workshop Topic Question was created by lfan
With the general lack of genre content & stories and the impending hiatus of our favorite small-screen fantasies due to the Writer's Strike, I had the glimmer of an idea about crossing the two universes for our next Workshop.

Suggested Topic
===========
"If YOU were hired as a writer to fill-in during the strike, spin YOUR favorite ubergirl tale in any series you like"

We've broached the idea of "fan fiction" before with mixed results but this is different cause now its kinda on topic here in the States and quite honestly, I cannot think up another idea. The only question is if this topic is a waste of time from a participation standpoint with our writing (or wannabe writing) fraternity here at SGI.

Wanted Lana to keep her powers? Don't like the way NBC is handling Jamie? Want Kara in a smackdown with Clark? It's all up to you and your imagination! And it doesn't have to stop with ubergirl-related shows: Thought about the girl from Bones BECOMING Wonder Woman?, superpowered version of Survivor?, Kim Possible with superpowers?. It's up to you, maybe.....

Ergo, here is my attempt at "research", knowing full well everyone could lie or reneg like they did last contest! :P So without further fanfare, please vote:

Aren't I still owed the choice of topic for some contest or other?

I answered that i will partipate as a reader for two reasons

1) I'm probably one of the slowest writers around here

2) The TV show thats I know better don't support the ubergirl theme particulary well

So I can promise anything, but anyway I will probaly try to write down something.

As a reader, you bet! I have two unfinished stories that I keeping thinking that I will get around to finishing, Kelly and Penny, and Turnabout.

And then there are the 10 chapters that Argo and I need to finish for The Supergirl of Smallville and I am coming into the busiest time of the year for work.

Despite the above, if I come up with a really good angle that I like I might be able to crank out a couple of thousand words. It really depends on my mood and how other things in real life are going.

Maybe Spulo has an idea, or did his prize certificate expire along with the check?

I have a story already finished that I think would work for this.

Spulo's idea didn't expire, I simply forgot about it (Sorry, Spulo).....why don't we do this, let's run two workshops simultaneously. Spulo's choice definitely and possibly the fanfic one if more interest is generated. Spulo, I apologize, your choice is def the next one, whether we do the fan fiction idea or not.....

PM me or post your ideas here....

Irony is, right now I don't have a proper topic chosen (aside from a vague secret agent thing) - but I do have an idea for a Smallville story for this contest.

And it makes more sense to do the writer's strike one before anything else. So I'd be in for that...

Hmmm ... there's a story I've been wanting to write for a while. With a little tweaking, it could fit this workshop theme. Maybe I could write it between chapters of "The Supergirl of Smallville."

I would definitely participate as reader. Don't know about a writer though. Maybe if one of the workshops was a short word contest like a few we had before.

Sorry, I've been off launching things. I must confess I've lost the spark for the written word. I've been getting into other, more visual media. I'll likely sit out this and every subsequent workshop. I'd offer my services as a reader/reviewer...but everybody knows I'm Beowulf in reading glasses. Best I fade out.

Writer's strike? Will anybody notice? I sure won't. The writing arts world-wide have honestly been in reruns since the 1940's. It's about time we starve off the fatty heap of them and start over.

Prove me wrong. Better yet: be that new start. I muse you.

Peace--or whatever.
