UPDATED 3/13/08: Workshop 1.11 is on (continually now)!!

20 Dec 2007 14:55 #11160 by lfan
TOPIC*
"If YOU were hired as a writer to fill-in during the strike, spin YOUR favorite ubergirl tale in any series you like"

Any type of ubergirl related story that is spun or set in the world of TV/Movie/Video Game fanfiction is fair game. Story length can be ANY amount of words. Screenplay or prose formats accepted.

Deadline is Feb 14th, 2008 so let's get scribbling and interject some life in this contest again!

UPDATE: Contest deadline extended to March 15th as per requests. Like you knew this wasn't gonna happen! :P Seriously, let's try for a good batch in a month! For those totally jonesin' for uber-fiction, check out Dusty's contest that closed over at Mankillers ! 11 new stories! Hmm, I remember when we had 11 entries in our contests.... :P

UPDATE: Well, the deadline has been moved -- permanently. As of today, there are a total of ZERO stories that have been submitted. In addition, a few authors that I had spoken to have been unable to submit as they thought they would, leaving the hope for many (or any) submission in jeopardy. Therefore, Admin and I came to the conclusion to indefinitely extend the deadline. Any submissions half-done (or fully done) would be welcomed greatly at any time.

Based on the diminishing returns of the Workshops of late, its also being bantered about whether to suspend or revamp the format (we actually had an idea for the latter). Judging from the lack of fiction traffic of late, not only here but also at DtV and XtSt (Mankillers recent contest not withstanding), maybe its time for a hiatus and/or recharging of the batteries (I know I need it). Comments and ideas welcome --- as are new fictional works.

Peace
ElF

* As agreed to/endorsed (somewhat) by Workshop 1.10 winner, Spulo. Congrats, Spulo!!

I assume this is for current shows only. Or can we do another Ginger-and/or-Mary-Ann-become-uber story?

Feel free to uber-up any of the chicas on Gilligans Island, especially if it'll mean more entries....that means old TV is up for grabs: Bewitched, Champions, My Mother the Car....:P

... the mind revs into high gear...

Agent 99; April Dancer; Daisy Duke; Morticia Addams; Lily Munster; any or all of Charlie's angels; Leela, Romana, or any of the Doctor's other female companions; Beverly Crusher changing to suit her name...

Now, if I can just pick one and stay with it...

I'm in. I'm not sure I'll be able to write a complete story by the deadline, but I'll try to turn something in.

Dang, this ain't as easy as I reckon'd. I'd intended to write one, mebbe two, at most three hour-long episodes worth. But dang gummit, it's lookin' like it's gonna take a whole season for the story...

(Like argo, I'm not sure I can finish it by the deadline, but I'll try to get some uber-action turned in.)

(And don't try to figure out what I'm writing from the "accent" above. It's got nothing to do with the story, though there is one character who talks somewhat like that.)

I was afraid I'd retired, too. :D

I'm still writing on all of my existing storylines, but just haven't been able to put together a coherent chapter that fits into the current stories. Jumping ahead into things like Julie's daughter (yes, she's going to have a full-blooded Velorian daughter (or two)), Mary's daughter (a half-blood Kryptonian with the powers of SHAZAM), Claire's clone (created and controlled by Lex Luthor), at least two storylines involving Ursa (and Zod), etc.

The last thing I should be doing is branching out with a major story based on a TV show...

So with the deadline two days away, I'm wondering how many stories we'll see, and from whom?

Sadly, I'm out. The past few weeks have been busy on several fronts, and I haven't had the time for writing a full-length story. And it's a story I really want to write -- I even commissioned an illustration for it. Oh, well -- someday ...

BUT ... I hope to be submitting an "off-topic" story by the end of the week -- Ace and I are back at work on "The Supergirl of Smallville" -- and I've been busy with another genre-related project that I'd prefer to keep under wraps for the time being ...

Damn, I missed my chance for that coveted DEFAULT win! But then DKC would put one in as usual to keep me from getting it!

Julie, that was absolutely wonderful, a real treat for me! It took me back to Thursday nights in Junior High where we would all head over to one guy's house (he had the only color TV) to watch Start Trek, while each week, we carefully recorded the Star Dates to determine the pattern (there wasn't one!).

So nice to have you back writing again. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next episode!

The "technical difficulties" being that Infinity Bridge bandwidth problem I've been hearing about?

Good to see you back in (writing) action, anyhow. I'll have to catch up with this.

I'd been thinking of writing one myself, in which Bionic Woman faced off against the idiots who were writing her scripts. Maybe she'd have a Word Processor in the Sky moment: "Up there? God? In a dirty bathrobe?

But I was too busy with my day job and other hassles. Maybe I'll take it up again some time.
