I writing a story and the obvious thing is a girl is given superpowers. Right now it’s a space rock that does it.Any  one have a maybe more interesting take? I’ve been thinking about doing rewrites.

Instead of the space rock landing near her, she could maybe land on the space rock and infiltrate the rock rather than the rock infiltrating her?
E.T.A. I was thinking from an exploratory astronaut point of view, similar to Sigourney Weaver's / Ripley's point of view in an Alien situation.

Sounds familiar They're all meteoroids first

That aside, good McGuffins are hard to come by. Maybe you could try and play with it a bit similar to Monty's suggestion. Maybe the meteor affected the plants around and the girl accidentally eats a contaminated fruit or something like that (thinking about a particular episode of Smallville where the freak of the week was created by drinking shakes out of kryptonite-infected vegetables) or anything really.
A good McGuffin also tends to influence the main plot by quite a bit, especially if it's an origin. Questions like "is it temporary?" and "can it be repeated?" could set up some basic plot (e.g. making sure she'll be powered up when she needs/wants to be) and allow for a possible rival of the main character.

Instead of the meteorite thing got a pair of ideas around my head:

One based on a old Superman comic where some aliens come to find a earthling that takes Sups role on a movie they're goin to made (that was named before in another post) so imagine they're watching for a girl to do a superheroine movie but in fact when she arrives to set finds that really are given her superpowers and a uniform as part from a other planet plan to get someone to protect earth..

Other is that the main char discovers by accident a portal to a different universe where another version of herself is a powered girl and after a meeting she helps our babe return home and when finally does ends just like the other one with same clothes and abilities.

Honestly, the origin doesn't matter much if it isn't gonna be a major plot point in your story. If you just want you girl to get powers and that's it, I'd say there's no need to do anything fancy. Let the story focus on something else
