Why no S shield?

I know this is a really minor thing to complain about, but am I the only one who doesn't like that so many of the Supergirls on the paysites don't have the traditional Superman S on their costumes?

To me that's just as much a part of the whole outfit as the red cape or blue tights or whatever, and of all these sites only Project Superwoman has the S exactly right, with the Steeles being a little off but at least it's there. The girls from supersexyheroines.com, superheroinefilms.com etc all have a star rather than an S, and I've never really understood why when the rest of their outfits are spot-on.

Just looking at those pictures of Danica that JonX posted, and she looks terrific...but I won't be buying the clip. It's not that I'm throwing all my toys out of the pram because there's no S on her chest, and I may well buy it eventually...but what I am saying is that if she did have the S I would have bought it right away.

Same with supersexyheroines.com - after years wanting to join but not being able to cos I didn't have the right bank card it was a bit of a disappointment to find that the girls all wore star-shields rather than the S that they had done when it first opened. I really don't want to sound ungrateful for the work that goes into these sites by moaning about something so trivial, cos the amount of time and effort involved is obvious, but if everyone's going to such lengths to reproduce the classic Supergirl costume, why change that one thing at all? The rest of the outfit is perfect...

S stands for so many great words to describe these women - super, superior, strong, superstrong, supersexy etc - whereas the star is just kinda boring. It'd be like making a terrific Wonder Woman costume, getting a gorgeous girl to wear it...and then giving her a top hat instead of a tiara; she can still look terrific but it just isn't the same...

2 words: copyright law

Put an S shield on the costume & try to make money off it online, and you risk getting a cease & desist letter from DC's lawyers. No S shield & you're free to do as you please.

I agree with your complaint, but the reason is legal, not laziness or personal taste.

I did wonder if it was that, but then why do some sites do it and not others? Why is the S more of a copyright problem than the rest of the outfit? And why can't supersexyheroines use the S on their costumes when they use the S on that cute little halter top that their girls sometimes wear?

And remember, the same folks who buy those movies most likely buy the comics as well. It's best that the sites do not piss off DC, so that DC does not have to piss off it customers by going after the sites. A Win-Win situation if you will.

As I understand copyright law, there are two reasons at work here:

One is the 80% Rule which is a guideline saying that as long as there is 80% or less similarity, then there is no copyright violation.

The other is that I believe DC has the S shield logo trademarked. As I understand it, a slogan or symbol can be trademarked, but not copyrighted.

It's a bit puzzling. Steeles uses S shield. A lot of peril stuff uses S shield(would think DC would go after them if anyone?).
Think it's only SSH that doesn't and superheroinefilms uses SSH costumes(?).

Definitely prefer the S over the star.
