I’m thinking of writing a story of a guy reconnecting with a girl he was friends with in school and finding that she’s joined an all-female super team recently.  Being given powers was part of the initiation but other than that I’m not sure what else the joining process entails, which is a problem because most of the story would be about her telling him about it.  Any ideas about how this works?

I had an idea a few years ago that could help here. It was mainly about the team "recruiting" their newest member by officially recruiting her for something else. A job at a bar for example. Then they'd stage a few secret tests of character to check wether she'd really fit the hero part of the deal. Final test would have been for them to tell her about it and offering her powers beyond her wildest dreams and her refuysal would be what makes her worthy.
In that scenario there was another candidate that was less than worthy and I had a twist in mind about the other girl jumping at the opportunity to drink the super potion - only to learn it was the antidote to said person and they'd secretly been given the real potion before which then starts to affect the main character...

The best person or candidate to have superpowers is the one who does not want them.

I had an idea of a superhero team looking for a new member after one of their members retires/dies. They have open tryouts and get several male heroes with different kinds of powers. Then this 18 year old girl who just manifested her powers shows up. The guys dismiss this girl. (Everyone knows guys are the more powerful superheroes). As each of the male candidates demonstrates their different powers, the supergirl says she has that power too, only hers is better than the guy’s. Much better.

She starts to get a little cocky that she seems to be so much better than everyone at everything. So one of the regular heroes tries to put her in her place by showing her up, only she’s more powerful than the regular heroes too, in fact, she winds up being more powerful than all the other heroes combined. She winds up replacing the whole superhero team herself, and does a better job than the whole team combined, putting all the other superheroes out of work.

The guys dismiss this girl.
I don't know if that would happen in 2021 nowadays. Maybe in some areas, but stuff like that will get out on social media where a woman is turned down because she's a woman, the guys will get into hot water on social media by people who don't even have superpowers.Actually, it's the superpower of social media wokeness
