The Tracker is back - but not as you know it
Some of you will remember the old site that had a tracker that checked a number of sites and posted to a page if there was something new, towards the end of the trackers life it was not working as well as it should, I made it a goal when I put in place the new site that here would be a tracker but with everything that has gone on it had been put on the back burner and eventually I stopped thinking about it and worked on other things.
So after talking with Red_five who was looking at developing a tool to go with his timeline pages we talked about the tracker and he suggested that he could do something with RSS feeds of a number of sites and after a number of revisions we now have a tracker.
It's not the same as the old one but it's better as it checks the sites listed and updates itself in nearly real time (there is a 10-15 min delay), the new tracker is heavily biased towards supergirl but there is also WCG youtube feed there and there are other sites as well. If you have a site that you want to add please contact me or red_five and we'll get it added.
I would like to personally thank Red_five for his excellent work, there is still a ton of design work to do but he has set the site on a good path.

There's a brand new prototype version of the tracker available at the above link. It has been extensively re-written to use a totally different means of reading the RSS feeds. The change should mean the feeds will be much more timely, being read directly from the source rather than relying on Google's cached copy of the feed (that may take a while to update!)

With the new beta version you should get notified of breaking news within a couple of minutes or so of it appearing on the popular comicbook / fan web sites. The tracker does all the hard work of monitoring the sites for you -- you just have to sit back and let it do its thing. (Plus you can easily scan what's new on non-news fan sites, without having to visit them directly.)
If you're on a laptop, or tablet, the link for the beta version is here . If you're on a smart phone, try this direct link instead.
Note: These are links for the beta test version -- if the software proves successful, I'll promote the beta version to become the main version.
But we need your help...
The tracker is a bold and innovative piece of technology, we need your help in making sure it works well for as many people as possible. Please post a message on this thread to help us out.
- Does it work for you?
- If you encountered problems, what kind of problems? (Don't forget to tell us your OS/browser.)
- What do your think of the tracker? Good idea? Bad? Not bothered?
- What sites would you like to see tracked. Depending upon the format of the site, we can't promise anything, but most news-based sites or forums have a fairly consistent format that the tracker can analyse and extract its updates from.
EDIT: Or.... if you can't be bothered to post a message, just click [THANKS] to let me know the software worked okay for your.

fats wrote: You might notice that the tracker has disappeared, worry not I've moved it to a dedicated menu item, the reason for this is that I've had some comments sent that the home page will not load for users who are using mac and firefox. now I have told you many times that mac's are evil but some members still use them so to help them I've moved the tracker to a dedicated page, once apple has gone the way of atari i will relook at the tracker placement.

Mac's native Safari browser liked your home page. I thought Firefox had died. Maybe this is how a dead browser smells.
