So what do you think?
It's been nearly 3 months in the development and I would love what you wonderful people think.
- Are there any good bits?
- Any bad bits?
- Any so so bits?
- Is there anything you want changed?
This new site has been designed to give you the member a better experience in the works if the ubergirl, With a better site layout, new features the ability to add content, to chat, to engage in ways that the old site never had.
Over the next week I'll be adding a Iphone/Ipad skin so that you will be able to view the site on the go, don't worry Android and Windows mobile users I'm also working on those skins as we speak.
The new forum has the ability to view YouTube and other cloud video sites natively, so all you have to do is put the link in your post and it will appear, this also works for other video cloud sites as well as some picture cloud sites as well. Other features of the new forum has been missing is the ability to have an Avatar, a little thing but I feel that it makes all the difference to a forum, it's a small way for people to get to know one another by seeing your face or a pictorial depiction of you or some random picture that you feel shows you.
Karma - We have it in real life and now we have it here, so if you see a post that you like you can give the poster a little bit of karma, or if you find a post nasty or negative you can give a bit of bad karma, but remember karma goes both ways so that what goes around comes around. If you don't way to leave karma but still want to give something back to the poster there is always the "Thank You" button, it works so well on forums that I though it would be a good thing for here.
Storybank - The storybank is now organised by Date, by Author and by Title, this has been missing for a number of months from the old site and it's pleasing to see it back. You can also now post comments at the bottom of the stories, I'm working on a way for the author of the story to get an email to tell them when they get a comment but for now I recommend that authors check back and see what comments they have on their stories.
Chat Room - We have a fully working moderated chat room, and I know from chatting with Lfan that a "Town Meeting" would be a good idea for members to get together and have a good old chat, it's another way that members of this site can get together.
One thing that's not working is a "submit a story" link but that will be fixed by friday, so don't worry about it.
I hope that you will find something new here and that you help this place be the best site on the net.

One minor thing I'm less thrilled about is the interface size on the forum.
Too much scrolling action required now compared to before. I'm not sure if this is intentional to fit the new icons, but I personally prefer forums where I can see as much of the content as possible in 1 glance.
But again, it is only a small issue for me personally, overall it's a huge leap forward so great job!

(I admit I got a little nervous when I couldn't seem to log on earlier today. I thought maybe I got the boot ... or the finger-flick )
on edit: found the preview post option.

T'will be interesting to see who picks what avatar, and funny to see who misposts where and so on and so forth. And the obligatory and understandable discovery of the first glitch.... but hey, well done lads on getting it all up and running.... here's to another 6 or 7 years....

serious question: Where have our pm's gone?
Will they be returned or should we have been told to back them up before the changeover?
(Or are they still there and I'm just lost?)

Later on today I'll be placing a link for people to get their PM's from the old forum, The transfer from the old set up to the new set up the PM's did not transfer over.
Hope this helps.

The only thing I miss is the updates tracker
But that's being worked on so it's cool
Edit:
Can't we have a "Link" section untill the tracker is up again?

I don't like the SWM Gallery drop down... there are just too many categories. But I have no real suggestion of what to do about it, so this is just a general whine.

LOVE the edit button – favorite – subscribe.
I’ll have to come up with a good avatar now when I have a moment.
I do hope someday I can control the PSW gallery and add items on a whim – it would probably happen more often.
I'm looking forward to the mobile UI. (Windows Phone Please )
Nice work and Thanks all! Glad to have SWM in the 21nd/22nd century.

Hi Revan, i'm currently looking at different forum skins to see if there is one out there that has a smaller interface or a interface that will close elements to enhance the ability to view the forum.

Could we get an edit feature for authors to make minor edits to their own stories? If we're worried about people completely changing things, maybe some sort of version log to go with it, so you can view previous revisions?

I would think we could come up with some "level" specific names.
"Sidekick" - "Hero Supporter" - "Heroine" - "Super Heroine" etc etc...
