Short Japanese Superheroine Strength Clip

I know there are dozens, maybe hundreds of these things on YouTube, but this new one caught my attention for its low-budget creativity.. She catches the giant whatever with one finger, as the weight of it cracks the pavement beneath her..

Most of these clips come from the Giga website. In the specific, this one is from this movie www.akiba-web.com/product/index.php?menu=1&product_id=4606

GIGA / AKIBA, in my opinion, is like our genre's "Lex Luthor". An outfit with all the talent, smarts, and resources to do such great things (like this clip), but they use their gifts for evil (peril). In most of their "western superheroine" movies, they have about 1-2 good "girl power" scenes, usually at the beginning of the movie, before the heroine is quickly overcome/killed.tortured/etc.

A shame...

Yes the plot on most of their movies is like that (and the others have zero girl power and total peril since, well, first very second ! :D ). Sometimes the heroine wins in the end though, but rarely.

You might want to try their zen-pictures (akiba-heroines.com) website. There is no p0rn there, and mid to little "peril". Heroine wins most of the times

I agree. They were the ones that did Astro Girl: American Heroine, which had a lot of promise. The clips I have seen since have everything pretty formulaic. Main heroine introduced demonstrating she has super powers and saving the day. Then in a subsequent battle, she is defeated and everything devolves into a peril film.

I guess it is like the films from The Asylum (people behind Sharknado and Sharktopus). Don't change the formula if what you are doing works.

I don't think that the comparison with the Asylum is correct. The Asylum produces bad horror movie that have a paper-thin story, but are somewhat enjoyable to watch even to hardcore horror fans (the "so bad it's good effect"), while the GIGA/AKIBA produces videos with comparatively high production nalues that are enjoyable only to a very specific kind of public.

As someone who has friends who work on Assylum movies- i would state that the production values are about the same as this. Which isn't a critique But I would comment to a degree that they have one a great levelers-they know how silly they are and try for humor-ironic humor but humor. While there superfically horror movies these days increasingly there more of light creature comedies(ala latter godzilala)-there really isn't any scares in them beyond the joke.

Which isn't a bad thing. I think its easy to say that asylum movies are bad-and a lot of there early movies are- but the best do have a sence of joy to them.

I realize that the peril thing exists-and maybe it is equivalent to say those really fucked up horror movies, which i also don't enjoy.

There similar. These both obviously don't have huge budgets. They don't have the money for a lot of actors or subplots or any of it. They can do special effects but if done well thats kind of cheep. I remember a story about the Neil Gaiman movie "Mirrormask". There was a young girl. They couldn't afford doing a scene where she went to school(25 children extras for a day, etc etc). They could do a scene where the entire universe collapsed upon it self Low budget filmmaking is a strange one You get a lot of scripts these days in hollywood for one room horror movies( i have been asked to write a couple of them). For a million bucks you can make one room look pretty damm good - and do horrible things there. Certain things-an opressive athmosphere, a sence of panic and pain-you can do that.

But i will give Asylum Credit. A lot of there early stuff did try for this-and felt kind of horrible. There more recent stuff at least tries for vision. There basic formula is the same but the notes are diffrent. I think its easy to critique it -but really there production values and scope are about the same as say most indie films you see at sundance. I give it credit for trying to soar-even if the strings are occasionally visible.

In any kind of superhero movie i admire at least a little sence of fun- i was watching a super cut recently of the nolan batman movies as a comedy-and realized yeah these movies actually are kind of funny. If the girl doesn't like her powers whats the point?

I realize that in japan, there is more of a culture of melodrama in movies. And no one wants to get made fun of. but ehh. A little Humor a little sence of fun. Its not even the winning and loosing- itts just well i like to like things.

I have e-mailed producers who make the higher end Peril videos asking for different content and almost to a man they said they would produce such videos if they sold in the numbers that peril videos do.
Some companies offer alternate ending videos where the Heroine wins or loses, you choose.
In my experience these are straight up peril videos where at the last second the Heroine is defeated or jumps up and knocks out the bad guy.

Well perhaps this is a question less of sales- but of distribution. To use the example of Assylum-since there beggining what there real strength has been is getting there films out there . At least in america it is very easy to find there DVDs. You can buy them at a lot of stores and supermarkets-there just everywhere. Though DVD market is a lot less then it used to be, its still easier to find there "Mockubusters" then sometimes the movies they parody.

This maybe unfair but i do think the peril as more-pure fetish. Which means i think the audience will pay obviously more to see it, and seek it out. Just woman being strong - well i am not sure that really counts as a fetish. I'll be honest and say i rarely buy the 20 minute videos. We can see the youtube clips. And a lot of people do. Wonder Woman fan films reguarly do in the couple of million clicks on youtube.

But I have said this before to a lot of filmmakers- You know make actual feature films. i know theres more direct proffit in selling through your website-but well getting into Redbox is money to. Get onto Cable. They need programing. Sell it overseas. The production values and costs are higher-but there not extravegently higher. A couple of weeks ago i posted a link to trailer For All Superheros Must Die- which i have the data here made 400,000 bucks on a 20,000 budget(in fairness though it has a cameo from James Spader). There are still companies that want movies-and i suspect you would make a lot more then any peril movie like that.

Personally I don't care what happens after these edited out clips, as long we keep getting these clips I'm a very happy guy.

I mean the peril people are getting their thing, and we get a very small subset of it like small Christmas presents year trough.

Only problem is finding them between all the smut I guess

Most of the studios on Clips4Sale.com work on a commission basis. You can write the script you want and they will produce the video custom made for you. Look on their current clips to get an idea of the costumes and props they have or you can buy them a costume you want them to wear. Customs usually run about $100 - $300 based on length. There are a handful of custom-made, peril free superheroine videos on clips for sale, most of whom I have linked in various threads.
