A new Video by the people of Rainfall who made the awesome Wonder Woman short a few years ago, and Sam Balcomb who has been on the forrum before. If you haven't seen it worth seeing

My Thoughts:

This is much more complete then Wonder Woman, which felt a little plotless and airless-this does tell a good kind of gripping story of one womans in darkness

THe CGI is very well done, and there are lot of parts of it that have the kind of metroid Feel to it of being alone in a dark space with nothing around you...

But....well a lot of it looks like a Video Game. The All CGI Samus suit looks it. I kinda wish they made a costume. The Mix of that and landscapes never feel real for a second. The Movie has a lot of hommages to 60s Sci Fi...but well that was practically done, and while not a purist in there, it always helps to have something practical in a shot, especially with something this fantastic(the war craft trailer from earlier this week had the same problem). The iron Man movies which this clearly also took inspiration from, has some All CGi stuff, but less then this 11 minute movie.

But its a bueatiful video game. Wheter Samus is a classic Heroine for this page or not, there is something to the story of someone trying so very hard agianst the odds, that does kind of work Its obviously inspired by aliens(one of the problems of this: No actual metroids), but there is something less and more strong about Samus. And this does get that mix. I have heard stories that Nintendo is not necessairly intrested in going back to metroid, and probabbly will never do a movie-but yeah there is something here, thats worth a see.

While it is a complete story I felt like I was just watching someone play a video game.
I never felt like I was watching an actual movie.

Thx for posting, but I agree with Markie. She-Ra would have been better :p

Wonder Woman was a compelling visual peice and got the idea of a what a big screen Wonder Woman Movie would look like-but ignored the problem of what it would actually be.

This one is that it has the story of Metroid down(and like the fact that the only one she talks to her is herself)...But yeah if its still problematic visual.

Full disclosure-i voted for this over She-Ra, but yeah at least that would have been easier.

On the subject of Nintendo movies, I think that the still feel the burn from "Super Mario Bros" and in some cases I think it's for the best. I have to agree with a commentary I read a while back that the first thing a Hollywood production would probably do with Samus would be to gave a love interest, which would crash a good chunk of the character.

As for this production, I like most of what I saw, but not all. The CGI is excessive, but it worked and the various homages were well placed. What I can't get behind is the lead actress, she does a good job at making her character, but I can't see Samus in that character. Maybe it's me, but I tend to think of Samus as this unflinchable, Dirty Harry-like character, capable of staring into the face of the devil without even sweating. The heavy breathing inside the suit, the worried face during the first exploration, none of it looked Samus to me.

The Problem with a nintendo movie is that, They Would probabbly make a couple millions from liscensing at most. This is a good chunk, but if your a billion dollar company the risk to your image of it failing i probabbly worth more then that. That said a property like Metroid which isn't as known as the others would most benefit.

And i kind of disagree with you about her acting. I can see your point certainly, but one of the bueaties of metroid is its a game about going through these dark mysterious coridiors and spaces...and its eerie. You could say its like Survival horror-but thats thing. Thats a genre thats all about not wanting to go around the next corditor

. She does it. I like the idea of her as someone who does feel these emtoions-but does it anyway, and i could get behind that.
