1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

I like modern day, it gives me room to explore actual themes on the story.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

I like Modern Age sense. It is more dynamic, less silly to follow and I think it is quite balanced in several aspects

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Let's say they are around since late 60's early 70's

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

They made some changes on the story, but no substantial changes so far.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

They are quite rare. I would like to say there are about 600 powered persons spread all around the world.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

I don't think so, let make it a girl power world, but nothing stops men get into power armors or try other kind of devices to try defeat them.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

It is public, but they are part of daily life, like pro athletes and super models, nothing else.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

I would say there are several triggers to activate the Goddess XX chromossome pair, and the science still doesn't know how to make it a regular method

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Maybe the powers were seeded by the Space Gods from the past when the mankind was created by them.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Any origin is okay, but I think all of them are about the same thing

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

No, they must have different powers and different power levels. And there are just a handful of them which really are the powerhouses which can level whole street blocks.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

No difference

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

No difference

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

I think the power level difference is quite relative, I would hate read tons of stories about unbeatable goddesses without any flaw and which can level a whole town just breathing.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Yes, there are non powered heroines around, maybe they do the gig which the super powered ones don't do.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

I would like to say yes, maybe it is a common element in all of them.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

I like to do empowerment and power discovery and heroic vocation development stories. I think the universe mood at least for the start is the wondering and social impact of a super girl could do.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

No super celebrities. I would hate to read a Super Paris Hilton story.

Going ahead is the only one way to go to the future.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Earth as we know it adapting to the presence of supers.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

I'd say realistic but the flavor may vary over time and location. For example the small towns local superheroine may be viewed in a more Golden Age manner while bigger cities see them in a different way.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

They are just starting to turn up. Since there may be different ways to get powers, there may be a few exceptions...

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

... that didn't affect history.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

They start out really rare so that the first superheroes become well-known soon. There shouldn't be more than 100 publicly known cases with about 1000 cases in total showing that most of them want to live a normal live.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

There's nothing against it as long as they're not generally self-absorbed dicks that beg to be put into their places by a superwoman. They won't be the focus of the stories anyway ;)

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Most superwomen will want to keep their powers a secret so at the very least people won't expect to run into a superwoman.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

There may be several ways but they have to somehow descend from one or two major sources.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Since Science and Magic are the same thanks to Clarke's third law, I'd say "Magical potion turns nerdy girl into sexy ubergirl", there can't be enough of that one ;)

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

"Superpowers as birthright" especially in form of the kryptonian flying brick. I'd rather see a woman that suddenly has to deal with her new powers.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

The flying brick may be a general favorite (and mine as well), but I think a bit more variation is needed. This may depend on the origin as well. The "magic potion" from above may turn women (temporarily?) into flying bricks with very similar powers but a bit individuality as well, while another origin will have much more variance and allows much more specific powers.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Flight

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

The combination of Invulnerability and Immortality can become quite broken here.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

This depends on the different power sets at play. People with the same origins and power sets should be on about the same level and mostly differ due to personality/training. If the powers are different it may be more of a rock-paper-scissors thing with no real way to compare other than how effective the powers are used.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Depend on how many powered superheroes there are. If there's a bunch of supers in capes, a few normals may follow, whether or not these are effective is up to them.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Depends on how far conventionally goes. I can't imagine them ugly, but a few unique appearances won't hurt.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

Nothing in particular

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

No.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Either modern or sci fi. Superwomen in fantasy settings always feels weird IMO.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

Modern or golden age.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Since the birth of humanity.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

How some events played out are slightly changed. But the history is pretty much our earth but with some superwomen here and there.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Around 1ppm of the earths population are super human. And spread out all across the globe, not like in comics where 90% live in the USA.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

Yes. Maybe not as many or as powerful, but there are male supers.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

That supers exist is a well known fact. However, not every super humans identity is known. Some just try to live their life normally and are as discreet as possible with their powers.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

Not that many, it's a rare occurrence.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Science, but only if it's really expensive and hard to recreate or having a really low success rate.
Magic. Gods, demons, angels or other mystical creatures visiting this dimension or blessing humans.
Born super, but may not manifest until later in their life.
Aliens, but only if the character is from a different planet and not given their powers from an alien race.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Aliens giving humans super powers.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Depends on the origin. For example, aliens from different planets should have different powers. But supers created by a super serum should have the same powers, though how effective each power is can vary between characters.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Anything.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Magic without any rules.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

Characters with fewer powers might have more powerful version than characters that have several powers to even it out somewhat. Preferably no unlimited power characters unless they are villains.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

No, normal people who want to protect the world just join the neighborhood watch, police, army or something similar.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Not all are godly beautiful. I say average and up. But if they don't have any invulnerability or regeneration powers then they can still get scars, lose limbs etc.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

Nope.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this question. But I'm assuming it's about celebrities having super powers? Preferably no. But if they do then they are very discreet about it.

1. Comtemporary Earth -- roughly identical to our own except insofar as it's beem affected by the presence of superwomen?

2. A realistic setting should accommodate a variety of tones, ranging from light comedy to serious drama.

3. Not long -- 20 years at the most. Long enough for the general public to have gotten accustomed to the existence of superwomen ...

4. ... but not long enough for superwomen to have altered the course of world events in a significant way.

5. Say 500 - 1000 worldwide, with a few more appearing every year.

6. No supermen. (Something in the Y chromosome inhibits the development of super-powers.)

7. The existence of superwomen is public knowledge, though many prefer to keep their status a secret from the general public.

8, 9, 10. A single origin, of a pseudo-scientific nature, would fit my scenario best.

11, 12, 13, 14. They all exhibit, to some degree, what I think of as the basic super-powers: super-strength, invulnerability, super-speed, and enhanced senses. There can be variation in the extent to which individual superwomen display any of these powers. Other powers (flight, laser vision, shape-shifting, mind control) might manifest in some. No magic powers -- at least not without some pseudo-scientific rationale.

15. I wouldn't rule out non-super heroines.

16. I wouldn't make it a rule, but in practice writers are likely to create superwomen who are physically attractive as well as super-powerful. Super-muscles will give their bodies a firm tome and keep their skins wrinkle-free. Probably they'd be immune to other signs of aging such as greying hair.

17. No.

18. No.

Here's my two cents:

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Contemporary Earth.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

Realistic. If you can make a ubergal seem realistic, you've done your job as a writer! :)

3) How long have superwomen been around?

About a decade or so.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

It hasn't, beyond some strange, urban-legendish stories of strange women doing impossible things.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Incredibly rare. In the dozens.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

No. But some men are determined to acquire the power.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Exists initially as only rumor and urban legend.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

Open to this. I've used everything from science, potions, and magic in my stories, and I think they can all work.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Open to any.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

"born" goddesses. And please, no more hyphenated, apostrophed quasi-krytonian names. Ugh. (just my personal taste).

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

No. That would be dull, and limiting it to one or two powers each would be more realistic.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Strength. It's all about super strength for me.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Immortality. And limited invulnerability, only because these lend themselves to "goddess" stories where she levels an army in a single sentence.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

Lots. Maybe one woman is slightly super-sense-ish, whereas another could all of a sudden lift her husband's pickup.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

A select few who try to pass themselves off as supers (while trying to be do-gooders) could be fun.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Megahotness is bad? Yes! Supers are beautiful, sometimes in a strnage, ill-defined way, making their attractiveness nearly instinctual.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

I have a few ideas for stories I might contribute. Still working on them.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Sweet Jesus, NO. please, no. I can't take America's celebrity worship any more.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

I'd go with mostly contemporary, though with perhaps the chance to explore other options occasionally.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

No particular preference.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

My choice would be for them to have been around for centuries if not thousands of years, though there were only a few of them in the past and they haven't impacted history too much.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

Minor impact since until recently they were rare and mostly kept themselves out of the public eye. When they did take action it was mostly disbelieved by others. Some of their actions may have paased into myth and legend though.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Rare. I don't think there should be more than a few thousand worldwide.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

I would vote yes, though in general not on the same level as the women or as many of them.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

It used to be a secret, but it's become public knowledge since more and more have come into existence. There will be quite a few who want to keep the fact that they are super a secret though.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?
9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

I'm happy to have any number of ways though I'd prefer nobody to become super before their ealy teens. If there are only a few ways, there should be leeway with what methods can be used within the broad definition.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

I don't think they should all have the same powers, though if two have exactly the same origin they should have the same powers unless there's a good reason for the difference.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

I'm happy with pretty much any powers.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

I'd prefer there not to be immortality. Slower aging is enough for me.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

As much as is wanted. Again though, those with the exact same origin should be of roughly comparable levels.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

I don't see why not.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

I wouldn't make it a rule. Most of them probably would be, but I don't think they should all be.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

No

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

No

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Contemporary is usually the easiest setting for many author to handle. Since this is a group project that will be the easiest. Alternativly I suggest a very near future (like 10-20 years from now). Historical or fantasy settings are better suited for collateral stories.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

I'm a fan of '80s comic books, so I would prefer a realistic setting with a touch of gritty.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

This is an element that I would keep rather mysterious. Superwomen might have been around for a long time, but for some reason starting with the 20th centuries their number has increased. The question is: why?

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

Directly, not that much. If the number of Superwomen was limited, their influence was too. Still, one or more Superwomen might have been the driving force behind some historical events.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

I think that their number should be relativly small, but growing. Given the number of sovereign nations and territories (roughly 225) and the world population (over 6 billions), I don't think that the superhuman should be more than a couple of thousands.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

Either we can find a really good explanation, or I don't see why not.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

I say both. While some superwomen will be public icons, that kind of life isn't for everyone. Likely many superwomen works in secret.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?
9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

I think that there should more than one way, but this ways are not for everybody to try. A possibility is that there's some unknown factor linked to developing superpowers (like a genetic anomaly) and the various way to superize are just triggers for this element.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)
12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)
13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

I don't think that all the superwomen shoudl have the same powers. Some powers might be common (enhanced health, a bit of strength and speed), but I think that the characters should be as personalized as possible. Unless there's a really good reason to make the similar (same origin, blood relatives etc).

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

I think that this should be quite varied. Still I would like to establish some kind of upper roof to prevent an uncontrolled escalation of power.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

I don't see why not.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

I don't think so. While I can't picture a ugly supergirl, I think that having a more conventional looking supperwoman might be interested.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

Not right now, but I might have in the future.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Yes, as secondary unpowered characters, for the simple fact that I don't what to rethink a line every time I need to make a Paris Hilton joke or a reference to Scarlett Johansson. On the other hand I don't want them to get powers, it would complicate the stories too much.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Contemporary Earth, but it can include some settings of a future Earth too.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

It should be realistic, but like 1) it can include some futuristic settings.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Not sure, maybe since humanity exist?

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

I would find it funny, if some known history actions, would be actually the result of some supergirls interaction.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

There should be a lot, spread all over the world.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

There can be some supermen too, but they should be inferior to the supergirl in every way.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Some supergirls can be known in publicity, some could act, while their real name and person could be unknowing to publicity.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

As much as the people can think of.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

I'm fine with almost everything.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

No

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Sure there could be girls, having the whole package of different powers, but I think it would be more funny to see girls with different powers each.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Strength, superspeed, invulnerability are the most important for me.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Magic

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

There can be a big gap between the level of power between the superwomen. I'm fine with girls with 10x the strength of a average man, but I would like to see girls with the strength, able to let the planet shake too.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Mmh...not sure yet. If the character is interesting sure, why not?

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Yes, its part of their power I think.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

Not yet.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

No.

Contemporary Earth / Fantasy mix

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

No preference

3) How long have superwomen been around?

For a generation or two

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

Everyone has recognized them as the juggernaut superpower of the modern world; much authority has been ceded to them.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

In the thousands.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

No supermen

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Public knowledge

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

One

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Magic

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Science

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Super strength/stamina/senses, longer lifespan and heightened brain capacity are default, other powers are unique to the supergirl

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

All of those except immortality, and then some more personal powers that may be a bit more off the wall (e.g., a supergirl gains the power to heal what she punches, etc.)

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Immortality is a bit much, I'd rather they just got 10X life extension or something to that effect

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

They're all about even, with maybe a dozen or so who are considered beastly even to other supergirls

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Nah

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

I think a supergirl transformation should leave her quite voluptuous, but not chubby

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

I'd like a character who's basically so charismatic she's formed a massive cult of personality around herself, comprising millions of devoted followers and enjoying her own bastion-city above the law

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Nope.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Contemporary or futuristic. Simply more advanced weapons which leads to more impressive feats of invulnerability.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

Realistic.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Never.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

N/A

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Can count them on one hand.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

No

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Public knowledge. Like She-Hulk they stand out among the rest, so wearing a pair of glasses sin't going to cut it.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

One.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Science, terrestrial or alien.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Think She Hulk to an near infinite degree. Anything outside of that can be specific to the woman, maybe based on personality?

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Strength, speed, invulnerability, heightened senses, immortality, are the base powers I like.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Magic.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

To the flavor of the story/movie/comic/etc.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Sure!

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Of course!

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

My issue has always been superhuman's who don't act superhuman. The latest Power Girl is good example in the right direction. If you have superhuman powers why wouldn't you use it in your daily life? It's part of who you are so why not accept it and use them make daily life easier?

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

NO.

I'm going to answer these before reading the thread. I can't wait to see what everyone else is saying, though.
____

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)
- Contemporary Earth. Not a fantasy world. Our world.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)
- Realistic.

3) How long have superwomen been around?
- The very first superwoman/women should develop right now in the present day (2012). There shouldn't be a 'history' to concern ourselves with. We should get to write the beginnings of this alternate universe together.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?
- It hasn't. There weren't any superwomen until just like five minutes ago or something like that.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?
- Very uncommon. I figure whoever joins into this alternate universe is introducing/controlling one character. So... there should be roughly as many superwomen as there are regularly active SWM authors/forum participants. (I'm guessing like 20 or so?)

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?
- I'd actually be cool with some minor genetic/magic enhancees or whatever. But even the most powerful supermale should pale in comparison to the least powerful superfemale if we do decide to go that route.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?
- Eventually becomes common knowledge as our heroines begin their adventuring. But I've proposed that there shouldn't be any superwomen in existence before the start of our shared storyline, so the world is as it is for us today: the idea of a real live superwoman is just a kid's fantasy to any sane person until proven otherwise. No knowledge.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?
- One. I like the idea of there being on single supernatural/ultrascientific/beyond human explanation "event" that turns a random handful of women into supergirls.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
- Pretty much anything as long as it's random. I prefer something like a meteor strike or mysterious cosmic radiation burst over anything that has to do with an alien race or ancient wizard granting powers to people for any kind of specific reason.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
I'd like for there NOT to be any kind of implied secret intelligence or secret mission tied into having superpowers. It's more just something that luckily happened completely at random, not some sort of "actually these women were chosen for a specific purpose," or "there's a larger mystery to unravel about the origins of superwomen" kind of deal.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)
Thought about this for a while. And in the end, I decided that yes, there should be one standard set of powers, with no noticeable differences in power levels from girl to girl. All should be equal.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)
- Supergirl clone.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)
- Anything having to do with mind control or hypnosis or telepathy. I like the idea of being able to tell lies by listening to heartbeats, or being able to sense arousal by smell and stuff like that. But no straight-up mental powers.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?
- Zero. Everyone's powerset is identical with only the slightest variations in strength/speed/etc based on the person's fitness level at the moment they gained their powers.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)
- No.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?
- Yes. Magically becoming unbelievably drop-dead gorgeous should be one of the benefits. Even if pulling a Clark Kent alter-ego routine, the girl's amazing beauty should still shine through.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?
- Nope.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?
- Absolutely no super-powered celebrities. Nor should unpowered celebrities make any meaningful appearances whatsoever. Yes celebrities still exist. But aside from maybe mentioning a famous name for comparison or effect, I really don't want any celebrities involved in this at all.

Contemporary

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)
Realistic (well, as real as a universe with flying super women can be)

3) How long have superwomen been around?
They are relatively new, at least to most

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?
Unknown, but could be developed as a backstory

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?
Very rare, like less than 10

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?
Yes, but the women are superior to the men

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?
Unknown by everyone would be cool, but a select few knowing of superheroines is okay too

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?
Up to the writer(s)

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
All 3 work

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)
Can't think of any

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)
Would prefer all like Supergirl

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)
Super strength, super breath, invulnerability, lifting, flight

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)
Immortality can be boring, though sometimes it can be written very well

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?
Not much, maybe top heroine at 10x the weakest heroine at most

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)
No

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?
Yes

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?
Sure, why not? It fits in with the "I wish she was super" thread.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

From contemporary into near future Earth... perhaps now to maybe fifty years from now. Close enough to what we know that we don't have to work very hard at world-building and can focus on the characters.

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

Realistic bordering on gritty. Real life, but with super powers. In the end, its all genetics.

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Its a new thing... effects of an extraterrestrial event. People are just starting to come to grips with what it means.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

No impact... yet. That's coming in the stories.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Very few to start with, but more showing up all the time. Half a dozen at most when the stories start.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

No... mutagenic effects are somehow limited to women... cause unknown at first.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Secret now, with a handful of insiders trying to deal with them. As time goes on, they become the stuff of urban legends and then become publicly known... in the stories.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

Only one... its a retrovirus that comes from space that causes beneficial mutations in a very small number of women.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

I see this as either a deliberate "seeding" from an distant, advanced civilization. Perhaps they are worried that Earth is about to destroy itself (war, environment, whatever) and feel it needs some protectors. Of course, they have no idea how to control any of this once it gets loose in the population.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Anything related to magic -- prefer its some kind of super-advanced mutagenic thing, twisting human DNA into new forms.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Yes... and very much like Supergirl. Perhaps the aliens used our own mythology, both ancient and current (graphic novels) with the assumption that such beings would be better accepted by humans. So we could have Valkyries and Amazons and Kryptonian-types, along with new characters or archetypes that are built on those legends.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Superstrength, flight, invulnerability, heightened senses, long life, enhanced healing.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Immortality... anything that removes tension and conflict from the resulting story. They can't be omnipotent. Just very powerful. They can kill each other, but are very difficult or impossible to injure with any kind of conventional weapon.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

Significant differences... but even the weakest is thousands of times stronger than human normal. Strongest maybe twice the weakest.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Nope... just us normal folks. But I do envision various kinds of evil mutants arising where the mutagenic effect has gone berserk. Thinks vampires or whatever. Stopping them is one of the roles of the superwomen.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Of course... if you're an alien who can shape human DNA into whatever you want, you'd know that exceptional beauty is another kind of human power. A grotesquely obese superwoman doesn't wind my clock. Think fitness models with otherworldly beauty. Perhaps even pheromones.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

Comic or rogue planetoid nearly collides with Earth. People think its The End, but it only scrapes the atmosphere, leaving behind a symbiotic but microscopic life form that infects some women. I'll soon post an incomplete story I once worked on to maybe spark some ideas if you like it. The idea is that the stories sprout from a common origin story and then diverge, each one dealing with different superwomen or situations as the mutations continue.

The key is that the characters and origin are unique to this group, even if their powers might not be.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Don't see any reason for that, but also no reason to avoid them. The idea is to show our world or the near future as realistically as possible.

Anyway, that's my two cents...

Shadar

There's a clear consensus that the SWMU should be set in a contemporary Earth, essentially identical to the world we live in except insofar as it's been affected by the presence of superwomen. Futuristic technologies might be introduced, however.

Of the 14 respondents, 10 say that superwomen are only just beginning to appear or have been around for a few decades at most. Clearly, then, they can not have had much impact on the course of history. But even the four respondents who say that superwomen have existed for hundreds or thousands of years say that they have not been a significant factor in historical events (except perhaps in a behind-the-scenes way). One "outlier" says that superwomen are "juggernauts" who have come to dominate the world.

A majority of respondents (9) say that the number of superwomen worldwide is in the hundreds or thousands. Four would put the number much lower (5-20).

Half the respondents (7) say that there are no supermen in the SWMU. Of the 7 that are okay with supermen, however, 5 stipulate that they are much less powerful than the superwomen, and fewer in number.

All but one respondent say that the existence of superwomen is public knowledge. (Although if superwomen are only just beginning to appear, their existence would be merely a rumor at first.)

All but one respondent are okay with some degree of variation in superwomen's power levels.

A majority (9) are okay with non-powered heroines.

Most agree that superwomen display a high degree of physical attractiveness. (I don't think we need to make that a rule, however.)

12 of the respondents say "no" to having celebrities and public figures appear under their real names (except maybe as background characters).

On these questions, I think we can mostly agree on the basic ground-rules of the SWMU. There's more disagreement as to the origin and nature of their powers (questions 8-13). That will the subject of my next post.

1) What setting would you prefer? (E.g. Contemporary Earth, Future Earth, Fantasy, Historical.)

Contemporary Earth and Historical. I'll explain as I answer the questions

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? (
E.g. Realistic, Gritty, Golden Age, Silver Age, 90s extreme, Modern Age.)

Realistic

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Contemporary Earth: None, that is until Dec 20, 2012. Historically: Long long time ago.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

Historically: The affect wiped out the Mayan plus a warning of end of the Earth as we know it.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

A .0000001% of the population. For the time of the Mayans, lets say the whole Earth had 60 million people. So 6 superwomen.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

Not at first and not nearly as powerful. Maybe nearly as powerful at the end of the war.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

If there was 1 superwoman of supergirl power level it would be nearly impossible to cover it up. So I would say publicly known.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

1, Months after Dec 20, 2012 it will be called The Awakening. (always loved that story and video)

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Aliens virus

10) What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

Magic, that's for the powered men and women (vampires).

11) Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Yes

12) What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Standard Supergirl powers.

13) What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Mental powers. They will have strong minds and wills, but no reading minds and controlling minds. That is the vampires play ground.

14) How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

How I like percents, lets say 5%. Still 95% of a strength level that can move mountains while sleeping is still a Hell of a lot.

15) Are there unpowered super-heroines (E.g. Batgirl)

At first, yes. Later the unpowered Sups will become resists fighters.

16) Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Yes.

17) Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

I was thinking during the Mayan time an Alien race seeded Earth with superwomen. At first they helped the different areas the 6 superwomen were seeded. After sometime power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
They Mayan used magic(it was really science, but to them it was magic) to create the first superwomen hunter. A vampire. By numbers a lone the vampires won the war, but at what cost.
The Mayan lost control of their weapon against the Superwomen and past into history. The Mayan only warning to the future was a calendar

The question would be are there any vampires left. If not how do you stop an army of Superwomen. If there are some left. I would guess it may be the 6 super powered vampires that drained the 6 superwomen.

18) Should celebrities be present under their real names?

I don't think it will matter. I think it would be easier to say no because you don't have to guess what Celeb A would do.

This is lengthy, and I may modify it to make it lengthier!

1) What setting would you prefer?
Now with a twist- something akin to DC/Image/Marvel with respect to tech/societal evolution

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have?
Realistic modern age? Try whenever possible to stick to our real world, but modern comic rules trump, i.e. a train's weight concentrated into a small area of asphalt/pavement would crater the surface under normal walking conditions, but a supergirl holding a train would not (even in heels!) unless the author wanted it for dramatic effect. Same goes for her holding it above her head with her fingertips not sinking into it and it staying together as a rigid body. Also doesn't matter if it's at arms length either, the equivalent center of mass would always be the girl.

3) How long have superwomen been around?
Maybe from before civilized man, but I would say lets go back to 5000 BC. That gives lots of play room for stories.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?
History is more or less correlated with our own, with maybe more deviation in the past decade. The thought is that humans have always had this malleability to be able to become or be made into more, but the events/triggers didn't become more commonplace until more recent times (20th century) This allows for certain historical tales and for characters to be introduced in different manners. (I'm just a simple caveman, frightened and confused by this world... :P) An exception to the very low and very infrequent amount of supers before that time would be tales of the Greek/Roman or the Norse or Eastern pantheons- what if they were a unique mini events that birthed these people that after passing became listed as gods

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?
With respect to the superpowered community, they are a bit over normal population ratio (2011 estimate is 984 female/1000 male, so in this world we'd maybe want 750 male/1000 female). With respect to the world, a super is very rare, something along the lines of one hundred thousandth of a percent (.00001%) of the global population (approx 6-7000 worldwide). More in modern society than not.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?
As noted above, yes. I know this isn't the main focus but there are all sorts of story elements and ideas that are in play with supermen in existence in the universe. Drama! :)

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?
Public knowledge of supers existing, but conventional wisdom is that the actual number is much lower than what actually exist in the world. (maybe the public thinks there are 1000 world wide, governments know of maybe 2000 more out of the 7000) A few are in for fame and glory, others may want to just live as normal a life as possible- never wanting to don a costume, but helping out (or harming) if they won't be found out. Others may not want to play hero or villain, but may be caught displaying abilities in public/quasi private. (e.g. Sally was driving the combine harvester and took a turn wide sticking a wheel in a ditch. She has no qualms about hopping out and picking up the machine and setting it back down on the field. John was driving down a road opposite the field and thought he saw something odd, but didn't catch all of it and is unsure as to what he thought may have happened, his brain won't let him.)

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?
A great many. Except for the stupid ones, they don't count.

9) What power origins would you like to see?
Yes. :) I really do love origin stories and the discovery of abilities.

Although my take on magic is that in this world Magic does exist, but it is more like a power source, and much like D&D, you need preparation and study to invoke (knowledge and reagents) Plus it has some specificity- one can learn a spell to increase their strength a hundredfold for an hour, but is no more durable than a regular human. So one would have to have a spell for durability, but that layers on the strength spell. Since the magics intertwine only master casters can get more than a couple spells concurrently on a target. The more powerful the spell effect the longer preparation it takes and more materials (either amount, or quality or rarity) to invoke, plus they tend or have shorter durations. Of course there are artifacts that can lengthen spell duration or make effects more powerful.

10)What power origins would you not like to see?
None really, although as noted above, magic is rare. I can see a case for the origin of a girl to be made by magic, but it is very specific, and more or less follows the rules above.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers?
Nope. Some people will have crap powers or powers that are of such a level that they don't really matter. (Yay you won the lottery and got superpowers! Now we roll for superpowers and you got a 2- super olfactory senses and you can emit a soft ambient glow like a glowstick.)

12)What powers would you like to see?
Honestly, I'm a sucker for 'supergirl light' (strength, invulnerability, flight, speed (sorta tied to strength) But a well crafted tale of a girl who can shoot energy and can stick to things could be entertaining.

13)What powers would you not like to see?
Because of the universe, there are no truly invulnerable or immortal individuals. Those that may be considered immortal may live for 100000 years, but will die and there is always a natural process that can break down and defeat the most invulnerable being. In the case of our supers none that are player controlled have these levels of said abilities. But they can have lesser versions. (Live for 300 years or may shrug off small nukes but a h-bomb or heavy nuke would kill, as well as maybe a McGuffin energy source.) Mmmmm Sausage McGuffin with Egg...

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?
Quite a lot as noted above, but the chances of a super having top tier levels in multiple abilities should total a fraction of a percent of the folks who have powers.

15)Are there unpowered superheroines
Not many like a Batgirl, but I can see an Iron Man.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?
I really would like to say yes, but I can't. (I assume we are talking like PG for example?) I would say a great many are though, and even if not conventional, all supers have an aura about them that does make them stand out a little in a crowd be it eye color or the skin features or movement

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?
Honestly, yes, tons. I don't post much as I tend to come to conversations late, and I don't write because I'm not much of a writer. (Current ability is akin to See Dick. See Dick run.) But I do think I have good character and story ideas that maybe I can toss out at some point if someone wants to run with them.

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?
Supers are celebrities because they are super. You may have a reluctant actress or singer who is a celebrity but then is found out to be super later. But in terms of real world analogues being that way- no. Oh and rant- rich people who are somewhat attractive are not celebrities. The only thing they accomplished was being born to the right set of parents. Stop fawning over them America.

Contemporary Earth

Modern Age/Realistic

3) How long have superwomen been around?

Since the Second World War

4) How has history been affected by superwomen?

Superpowered people were at first used in secret during WWII but gradually became more public. Superhumans have tried to interfere with certain situations, but are generally checked by others. The Cold War saw huge superhuman development programs in USSR and USA with the Soviet program's secrets leaking out after 1991. Now rouge nations have their own superhuman projects going on. History thus has played out differently from the normal flow.

5) How common are superwomen? How many of them are there?

Roughly a few hundred spread across the world.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen?

Yes.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge?

Answered above. Public following WWII.

8) How many ways of becoming super are there?

First superhumans would be natural, but as governments unlocked the ways to grant superpowers there became procedures. Natural power development though still occurs.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.)

The others, although aliens (ie Kryptonians) would work.

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl)

Powers range from Supergirl levels, to just super strength or speed.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

All of those work.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.)

Nothing too over wanked.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen?

As said above max levels are Supergirl lowest, a person has one superpower

15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl)

Yes, but nearly all our government sponsored people. They are employed (along with powered heroes) to keep other superhumans in line. Rely heavily on technology.

16)Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful?

Most are good looking as a result of superhuman powers.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe?

No

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names?

Sure but personally not a fan of the superpowered celebrity idea.

1) What setting would you prefer? Contemporary Earth

2) What “flavor” would you prefer the setting to have? A mix of Realistic and Modern Age

3) How long have superwomen been around? Up until recently, though long enough for the general public to be used to the idea of superwomen, so ever since the late 1970s – early 1980s.

4) How has history been affected by superwomen? Minor changes in history, mostly towards the end of the Cold War as well as various other conflicts, but otherwise the changes are minor.

5) How common are superwomen? Superwomen are now integrated into society but they are pretty rare. How many of them are there? Between 0.1%-0.5% of the global population today.

6) Are there supermen as well as superwomen? No because it only applies towards the Y Chromosome, but that does not mean that they do not try.

7) Is the existence of superwomen a secret known only by a few, or public knowledge? Public knowledge

8) How many ways of becoming super are there? There are various ways, though the women that turned into superwomen has a birthright, meaning that the gene is already locked inside their genetic code, hinting at the theory of ancient astronauts visiting Earth or an ancient lineage that links to the gods of myth and legend.

9) What power origins would you like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.) Any origin or it could be a accumulation of all three.

10)What power origins would you not like to see? (E.g. Science, Magic, Aliens.) N/A

11)Do all superwomen have the same set of powers? (E.g. All like Supergirl) Yes they all have the same set of powers, but they all vary as it depends on age.

12)What powers would you like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.) Strength, Flight, Near Invulnerability, Regeneration, Heightened Senses, Super Speed, Heighted Agility and Dexterity, X-Ray Vision, Heat Vision.

13)What powers would you not like to see? (E.g. Strength, Flight, Invulnerability, Heightened Senses, Immortality.) Immortality, I would not mind their invulnerability and their regeneration grating them a prolonged life, but immortality would be pushing it.

14)How much variation in power level is there between superwomen? It varies between age and experience, though it is generally known that superwomen may hit the pinnacle of their powers at the age of 80.
15)Are there unpowered superheroines (E.g. Batgirl) Yes there are unpowered superheroines, some even team up with the superpowered ones.

16) Are all superwomen conventionally beautiful? Since their genetics has vastly improved, they have distinguishing features that are naturally attractive and alluring. Also, these women possess very fit and athletic physiques to complement their abilities.

17)Do you have a particular story or character idea that you would like to be kept in mind when designing the universe? Nothing in particular, though the superwomen greatly vary in their daily lives. Some choose to try and protect the world that they live in, whether they accomplish this through their own means (vigilantism) or they join an organization (i.e PeaceCorps, local police precinct, military, ect.) Some chose to try and hide their abilities and blend in with society, only using their powers in privacy and some chose to use their powers publicly but in a tactful and responsible manner. The third of the category would not necessarily go out of their way to prevent a crime in progress, but they would possibly volunteer for relief effort (i.e Natural Disaster relief, community service)

18)Should celebrities be present under their real names? There may be a few celebrities that are superpowered because of this dormant gene. And any superwoman that is known by the public is by proxy celebrities in their own right, especially if they are known for their heroics.

Oh, and the whole basis of these superwomen being the descendants of ancient gods actually comes from Mai, The Psychic Girl.
