Actually...

We've discussed bringing in cosplayers before. (I'd really rather not put any of my actresses in a potentially career-destroying Superheroine costume)

If there's really enough interest in this, here's what I think we should do:

1. Come up with a list of cosplyers/models who we could realistically get our hands on and put it up for a vote.

2. Contact the winner and find out what it would cost to hire her. (Including travel expenses)

3. Crowd-fund the cost.

4. Make a 30 minute movie with her. (I'll cover the production costs, casting, crew, etc.)

Heck, we could even turn to the SWM authors for a script/treatment and put THAT up for a vote too.

I'm all in if there's enough interest here.

I would never really want you to put any superheroine like costumes in WCG the attires you have now for your female characters are unique as it is and it fits your universe,____________________________________________

Hey Jess, I've talked with you once on Facebook about real comic stories like Heather Effect and in that time you explained the same about the costumes, reading again now I understand completely your point of view. By the way, keep doing the movies with plenty of superwomen feats that we are glad :D

Some of what Jess said was an eye-opener for me.

For instance, I never realized that it was risky for a model to put on a costume in terms of her future earning ability. Is that just an issue for aspiring models or does it apply to actresses as well? Is Melissa B going to have her career damaged by doing Supergirl?

Anyway, something to think about that hadn't really occurred to me before.

I'd vote for Nicole Neal and/or Faye Tasker as Supergirl (in outfits with capes and spandex). But if Danica wins and plays Supergirl, I'm fine with that, too. Long as there's lots of super power use and superheroine dominance!:cheer:

The attires that jess has the female chosens of WCG wearing is just fine, I don't really want to see superheroine like costumes in WCG to be honest, but I don't mind seeing other attires or new gear in WCG.

As much as I love the current content and have it on practically 'auto purchase', I would love a Dark Supergirl adventure. Good old pink or red kryptonite type of story. Lots of powers in use. Plenty of death and destruction. Some back and forth action between good and bad and a continuation of the series. To get someone with the acting chops and looks may cost more but maybe not. Must be more than a few gorgeous actresses willing to do shorter videos and get paid. Maybe an original costume so it doesn't set any lawyers spinning. If the actress(s) were right, sexy costume, fun/evil plot...I'm in!

I personally think the stigma of playing a superhero (e.g. George Reeves, Christopher Reeve) is something of the past, and I don't think that type-casting is as prevalent these days when it comes to playing superheroes. I think the superhero genre is now respected a little more as a viable cinematic theme more than in the past where it was kinda seen as jejune among the movie industry. A simple glance at the mainstream movies will show that some of today's biggest and hottest box-office stars (Chris Pratt, JLaw, Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, etc) have dressed in costume and still get great roles.

As for TV and genre films, it might be a little harder to find examples but that is more due to the sample size I think. Dean Cain never did much after LandC, but I think that was a conscious choice, as he went into the family business of producing and directing after that (his dad was a pretty successful director). Tom Weiling never did much either, but then again, he never donned a costume! :P

One interesting outlier on the superHEROINE side that I know of is one of the lead actresses/models for TheSuperheroines.com, Kristy Dowe, who actively posts on Facebook about her affiliation with The Superheroines.com which is , for all intents and purposes, a costume/combat fetish site. However, it hasn't stopped her career, as she constantly posts about landing TV gigs all the time in Scandel, Franklin &Bash, Harry's Law, the Mentalist, etc.

As for Mel B in Supergirl, I think this is gonna skyrocket her career, rather than hinder it......

I think most of the problems in the past, e.g. George Reeves, Christopher Reeve wasn't the _costume_ it was the character. That is after people seeing them as an iconic "Superman" they couldn't see them as something else, and couldn't buy them in roles that didn't fit that mold. Oh, look there's Superman playing as a bank robber.

I think we're a bit better than that now, more free to let actors take multiple roles. There's still the relatively modern example of David Tennant quitting Dr. Who at the suggestion of Patrick Stewart, and it's essentially for this reason: quit before all people can see him as is The Doctor. I think Rowan Atkinson took roles to limit him being perceived as Mr. Bean or Black Adder.

I do think one of the reasons Tennant is in Jessica Jones is he thinks it'll be fairly popular, and his character will most assuredly NOT be Doctor-ish, or at least a Villain (He should be genius at it). It's an excellent way to get fans -- and I'm sure there is going to be a significant overlap between Dr. Who fans and people who see Jones -- to see him as someone else.

This is called typecasting, which pretty much sums up as casting an actor only for certain roles based on his/hers past roles. It's a fairly common occurrence and one I doubt it would disappear any time soon. On one hand it a rather easy way for an actor to get more jobs, character actors are often in high demand, because they're often extremely good at their assigned roles and because their presence makes easier for the viewer to identify who's who among the cast (just think of the old man played by Gabby Hayes or the sergeant by Victor MacLaglen in many western movies). Overall it's not something that can ruin a career, but it's defenitely something that many people in the business wouldn't like to contend with.
