CW wants George Reeves to play hologram Jor-El in season 3

News has reached us via our usual sources (spies) in Vancouver that The CW network has hired computer graphics wizards Facepalm Digital., famous for resurrecting Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher in the recent Star Wars Rogue One movie, to work on the opening two episodes of Supergirl, season three. Their target? None other than former Superman actor, George Reeves, who will take up the role of hologram Jor-El at Supergirl's the Fortress of Solitude, in episodes entitled Krypton's First Superman and Unmasking the Mystery Men.

FD's Director of Visage Capture, Aprilo Malsaĝulo, confirmed on Twitter that the CGI face-transplanting technique (also briefly used to resurrect Anthony Hopkins in Westworld last year) will bring the face of the 45 year old dead actor to Melissa Benoist's Supergirl later this year. The shock decision by The CW to renew its superhero shows early was in large part to allow the Supergirl producers time to use the Facepalm technology in the next season. We understand that negotiations with the Bessolo family estate (Reeves' real surname) began in November, and once final clearance has been granted, the dead actor will undergo a process known as deep digitally probing to create a 3D face map from the 104 Adventures of Superman episodes he starred in, plus two Kellogg's Frosties commercials that survive from that period. Supergirl producers originally intended to digitally probe Christopher Reeve instead, but plans fell through when it was realised that eight hours of movie footage was not sufficient to build up an accurate 3D mapping of Reeve's features, even when including the extended Richard Donner cut of each movie, plus gag reels.

Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg commented, "We're thrilled to be bringing George into our Supergirl universe. The fact that he is long dead means that we don't have to pay him, although we're still in discussions with the Canadian Immigration Service about exactly how to acquire his work permit."

Facepalm have already carried out initial tests using existing members of the cast -- Chyler Leigh was the first to be digitally probed, apparently. If the episodes are a success, producers are hopeful that Yvonne Craig as Batgirl will be the next to be resurrected, although it isn't known how well the technology will cope with her cowl.

Reeves killed himself in June 1959, just one month after Supergirl's first adventure was published in Action Comics #252 -- the two events are not believed to be connected.

News of SG getting a third season shocked me indeed. Either do it right, or don't do it at all.

Anyways, thanks for the heads-up.
