While the show is off air, let's see if we can keep the discussion simmering...

The first video below showed up in my Tumblr feed and for some foolish reason I clicked it, expecting that it would be the usual fanboy rant ("Why did they make Jimmy black?", "When are we going to make Superman a regular?", etc.) Strangely, I found myself listening to some reasonable arguments about the failings of the premise and writing style of the CW Supergirl show, and although I didn't agree with everything said, I heard a few points that were at least worth debating.

Does CW Want Me To Like SUPERGIRL Or Hate Her? (13:16)

I then started to search around to see if there were similar videos, and found only one that didn't descend into the usual rant about how the show isn't like the comic, or claims that the show is sexist. It rambles a bit in the second half, so you may want to click away when he starts to repeat himself.

I have seen every episode of Supergirl since it premiered.
One and done then I move on.
The only episode i watched more than once was the musical with Flash.
Three times for that one mostly for the songs.

OK. How do we address this with out delving into the core problem of the show.
Supergirl is aimed squarely at pre teen girls and their Moms.
That's why Cara acts child like
She is written to appeal to girls and to Moms who live their lives through their children.
This is wish fulfillment for preteen girls and their Moms.
Cara is kinda dorky but just underneath she is supercool.
Season one: She has a cool job working for a celebrity. She has her own (very expensive) apartment. She dates the Older Cool Guy. She has superpowers.
Season two: She gets her dream job. She is the Go To Girl in an emergency. She dates the Bad Boy.

Season three: The prerequisites are all out of the way now that she has lost her "One true love" and a more mature/ worldly Supergirl comes into her own.

Lets hope the writing matures also.

Recently I had a table at a local convention where I was talking up AC Comics FemForce, my writing and other projects I'm involved in.
My grab line was: "
FemForce is the First and longest running team of FEMALE Superheros!"
If someone stuck around I got em with: "Unwritten rule, A female hero is NEVER rescued by a male hero."

I was talking to two couples that day. All college students. The guys and one girl were into it and one girl hung back.
I said: "Do you ever watch Supergirl? She is constantly rescued by Male heroes. That never happens in FemForce. Why can't Supergirl rescue herself?"
The one guy turned to his girlfriend. The one that was hanging back and said: "Isn't that exactly the reason you said you stopped watching the show?"
