CW expands its programming in 2018/19 -- good news for Supergirl?

CW Plans Sunday Primetime Block for 2018-19 Season

CW expands its prime time slots from five per week to six, adding two prime time hours to Sunday,

Given the congested cape show schedules on the network, with Supergirl and Legends being asked to time-share a night, will this extra space benefit Supergirl's future prospects, or leave them unchanged?

Putting Supergirl on Sunday night would be a ratings disaster. It would have to go up against Sunday Night Football which is a ratings Juggernaut.

Respectfully disagree.....I think it would be a good thing. I'm gonna venture to say that the demographics between SNF and SG are fairly exclusive. While the audiences overlap some, I don't think the SNF encompasses the majority of SG viewers.

The current Monday night slot, however, is a killer I would imagine, competing against Dancing With the Stars and The Voice, both of which probably share more demographic viewers than SNF. And Supergirl is currently also competing (slightly) with MONDAY Night Football (albeit now on ESPN, not a terrestrial channel). I think Supergirl would benefit from just about ANY day change (except for the "soon-to-be-cancelled death slot of Friday night) in its scheduled airing.

Great points all around. I never took audiences into account. You're right, especially about Monday nights.

I must be an odd person, but I don't care what night or time of day the show airs. I watch 100% of my shows off my DVR (DirecTV) or streaming with AppleTV (Apple's iTunes content and Netflix, etc) during the times I want to watch. In fact, I don't know anyone in my circle of friends and acquaintances who watches TV in real time.

I even watch NFL games this way. I let them get an hour ahead of me and then start watching as I blip over the commercials. I can watch the entire game and still arrive at the end such that I can watch the last minutes in real time. And yes, there's about an hour of commercials in a game, especially when you include half-time.

A game is so much more interesting when you watch it continuously without breaks. In fact, every show is better that way.

I don't usually think of myself as being ahead of the curve regarding entertainment (and when it comes to Millennials, I'm a dinosaur), but all these discussions about show times, etc. seems a little odd for 2018.

Do most people really still watch shows in real-time? Does it really still matter when a show airs? It all seems so... last century.

I was thinking much the same thing. I don't watch network TV live at all.

DVR, Netflix, or on disk once it's released in that format. I don't mind giving content creators money, but I'm not interested in being the product sold to the advertisers.

I tend to watch SG on demand as it helps in the ratings. I record it on the dvr for my wife.
