Season 3 x 23 Battles Lost and Won *Finale* (Spoilers)
Fantastic episode and a great season finale, in a different way
This episode again raises the question – Why can’t we have more at this level???
The opening scene was brilliantly done. The pacing, every character getting a moment to shine. Saturn Girl returning back was great to see
And omg, Carl Lumbley’s farewell!!! What a great scene with him and Harewood (they will both be sorely missed imo). Touching, character building AND world building, all in one brilliantly performed scene.
Even the nice nod to Superman was a cool touch. Sure, the sequence, and tbh the episode itself, was fairly light on action in general. But the writing was sooooooo good imo.
This episode got me a couple of time tbh. When Kara knocked Reign into the cauldron, and she went ape with her heat vision, wow. Alura; Sam & Mon-El biting the dust?????
I must confess, I was thinking “Well, that’s one way to resolve these narrative strands." And then "Wow, you had the balls to go there??"
But then we get the Kara Time-Travel sequence. Which yes, is a copout, but I’m glad it happened. Because then we got, imo, one of the best sequences in the SERIES - The goodbyes.
Holy smokes, each of them was perfectly written AND executed.
Mon-El and Kara. Fucking brilliant! I am SO glad it resolved the way it did, and not in the cliché way. And it felt natural, not forced. Kudos Team Supergirl.
Jo’nn and Alex. Brilliant scene. David Harewood will be missed in his regular role.
But to top it off, Jeremy Jordan’s farewell (not that he is totally gone), was actually fantastic. I’ve not been a huge Winn fan, but I must confess, when Kara said that he was the first person she told was Supergirl, I had flashbacks straight to the pilot, and it was touching.
Seeing how far this show has come since that opening episode, with all its ups and downs.
Each of the narratives was not only wrapped up in a great and logical way, they also had a nice bow placed on top of them.
And then we got the twist ending. Brilliant.TWO KARAS???? And “bad” Lena LUTHOR with a Tessmacher by herside??? W….T…….F?????
If I wasn’t really inclined to watch Season 4, you better believe I am now. Just to see where this goes lol
So, to sum up, Team Supergirl, you nailed the landing! Kudos to you.Now please, please, write with more consistency next season. You can hit great highs. Try to do that more often
Peace.

My DISH reception was very spotty last night and the whole episode was hard to watch with multiple interruptions.
I have it set up to record again on Wednesday.
Hopefully it will record and I can catch the subtle remarks I missed.
I enjoyed what I could watch for the most part.
BOOOOO>>>>>
I hate time travel as a resolution.
Why not just go back all the way and prevent the whole thing from happening?
I HATE the "Good girl gone BAD" trope.
Now we get a whole season of it.
Why couldn't the bad girl be Reign?
A legitimate bad girl.

Totally understand. Its a standard comic-book trope for sure. But in fariness, Lena was never REALLY good imo, so its a natural progression. And also, who knows if the whole narrative will revolve around her. There is another Kara in the world to consider

A legitimate bad girl.
Because we already just had a whole season of her Not that I would complain seeing a super Odette Annabel
And agree, the time-travel was a bit weak. But surprisingly, it didn't ruin the episode. Strangely, it made it better imo Oo
Peace.

...based on her new local (Siberia), if they are gonna do some kind of Red Sun Supergirl storyline (like the Superman comic)...
Nice spot I must confess I didn't think of connecting the two.
Peace.

Hopefully the writers get their ducks in a row and plan this one out better than the second half of S3. I'm willing to give them a mulligan and say that Kriesenberg's abrupt departure left them scrambling in the writers room. The last two episodes seemed to get better (a lot better) in terms of the writing although I still think they are trying to do too much at one time and the pace is off.

I think this last section was just cut and pasted from last years article.
"Returning to The CW this fall, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks
as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn
Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler
Hoechlin as Superman."

The thing for me is that the show always seem to cram a lot of things in one go.....maybe doing less is more for S4?

FWIW, I've seen a couple mentions of Odette coming back for a few appearances, probably like Laura Vandervortt did in season 1......

I caught many little subtle things that I missed and all in all it was a well written episode.
Except that Jonn, who two episodes ago declared that the DEO would be disarmed and only use non lethal weapons, sends the team out on a KILL mission.
Reign must be stopped at any costs or by any means necessary.
Supergirl initially balks but then falls into line.
Plain poor writing there.
They went to great trouble in the shoehorned in antigun episode to establish a thing.
Then in the next two episodes they forget that thing and continue on as usual.
