SPOILERS AHEAD from 4x7......

I'm calling it first!

Based on last night's episode and Lena's "super heart" discovery, I'm thinking that we're starting to veer into a familiar storyline from the Supergirl comic books.  As some may or may not know, in the comics they make Lucy Lane (Lois's sister) super as a military weapon.  Since Lucy Lane (played wonderfully by Jenna Dewan (formerly Tatum)) is long gone though, who will be Lena's 'test subject' that she asked for at the end of the episode.

My speculation is that we're gonna see Katie Olson, Jimmy's sister, becoming super and donning the SuperWoman mantle from the "Who Is Superwoman Saga".  Of course, she has not been introduced yet on the show, but she is set to debut in next week's episode.  OK, that may be coincidence but I'm thinking this also:

-- Katie Olson is recently discharged from the military, so she has a military background
-- Lucy Lane was Lois's sister;  Jimmy is Supergirl's Lois; Katie is Jimmy's sister  seems like a nod to canon and still be "original" for the show
-- It's pretty evident that the Jimmy/Lena relationship is starting to crumble.  What better way to obliterate it than by having Katie used as Lena's lab rat
-- Colonel Haley seems to be a stand-in for General Lane.....seems like they are prepping her for something "bigger"

While it probably won't happen right away, I'm thinking it's on the horizon.  Of course, this could be totally off base and they end up empowering a dude (boo) or not even empowering ANYONE.  Maybe it's a back door to stop the Red Sun Supergirl (who is doing god knows what right now!)  In any case, you heard it hear first!!!

By the way, here is the lovely Azie Tesfai, who will be playing Katie Olson:

That actually makes a lot of sense Lfan.  Nice deductive skills :)

Having said that, like you say, it may not pan out that way.  But if it does, I think you are pretty spot on in how it will (if that makes sense) :)

But, I'm not sure how many more characters this show can take tbh.  Its already bloated as it is.

Personally, I would prefer if Lena couldn't find a suitable subject, and made herself "super".  Maybe squaring up to Supergirl.  Would fit in a hell of a lot better then some NEW character who is just introduced.

Speaking of which, the Red Supergirl storyline, the more I think about it, the more I think the writers wish they could ditch it.  It seems like they had to include it because it featured as the cliffhanger-ish ending last season.

But with so many new characters and arcs introduced, and STILL being introduced, it seems like they have forgotten about it.

And all the while, even Supergirl fades into the background of her own show.

Peace.

Interesting... I've never seen Jimmy in the TV show as "Supergirl's Lois". I'm in the midst of digging back through early SG comics, along with some SM ones from that vintage, gathering material for some stories I'm writing. I'm reminded that Lois was a major pain in the ass for Superman in the early years. She was a strong and dominant woman whose unbreakable goal was to reveal Superman's secrets to the world. She was obsessed with it. She was hungry for the acclaim and Pulitzer prizes that would come if she succeeded. She was also romantically drawn to what she called the Man of Steel, for obvious reasons, which conflicted and confused her in her quest to expose him, even as she worked beside Clark Kent, who she initially had no respect for. He was a doormat for her to walk over, and some of the scenes, both in the comics and the early SM movies were painful to watch.

But that's what Clark Kent wanted to be. A lesser man for various humanizing reasons. Clark Kent was his "social Kryptonite" to ensure he remained compassionate to the needs and cares of ordinary humans. After growing up on Earth, he knew what happened to arrogant and powerful men, and as Superman, he was capable of becoming a god if he allowed it. Clark Kent tied him to the ground, and Jimmy was his buddy in ways that no one else was. It was no coincidence that Jimmy is the least powerful person at the Daily Planet, right behind Clark Kent.

Jimmy's role on Supergirl started off being an inverted version of the original Jimmy/Superman relationship of the comics, but clearly drawn from it. He was the mentor now. But after a promising start, that role became muddy and unfocused. The writers forgot any plan they might have had for him.

If anything, Cat Grant is the Lois Lane, given she shared a similarly driven personality, along wth a fervent desire to "own" the story and the reveal about Supergirl's life. My biggest regret of the show is that Cat didn't continue and grow further in that role. Unfortunately, Cat Grant couldn't exist as a character without Calista Flockhart as her face and personality.

Almost all the iconic characters from the Superman/Supergirl comic legacy have been turned to pudding in the TV show, so it's hard to form connections. We each pick up on bits and pieces that remind us of the iconic characters, but it's never a good fit.

But I never saw Jimmy as Lois Lane, other than having an unrequited romantic interest in Supergirl, and for a while, she in him. But unlike the comics and the SM movies, the writers seemed to forget all about that over time. A huge bust in Season 2.

There were elements of attraction between Jimmy and Supergirl in the Smallville series, and some hints of that in the comics, but that never went anywhere. Kara was way too intense and powerful and "alien" for Jimmy to keep up with, even for a moment. One of Laura V's better roles.

Anyway, for what it's worth, those are my thoughts. I'm not sure the writers can put together a credible Superwoman, but I'll be rooting for them to do so. One thing that seems certain -- she  won't be anything like the one in the comics.

To be honest I'm not too thrilled by the idea of them using the "Who Is Superwoman?" storyline, mostly because I found it kind of poorly handled in the comics. Still, I'm willing to gave it a shot since there are a number of stories that work better in other mediums (yes comic book Civil War, I'm looking at you).

Here's hoping you're right LFAN. Supergirl has this Social Warrior theme, and introducing a Black Superwoman has SJW written all over it. And although  i'm not a big fan of the SJW movement, I firmly believe Beauty has no race.....If SJW's want to take us here? I have no complaints! Here's hoping Olsen's sister even has her own Superwoman spin off show!....Okay I got way too ahead of myself.

Just after I posted this....I thought of a story line....

During the crossover event, Kara gets trapped in an alternate universe with the Flash and etc etc. SHe's gone for most of the season...She's replaced by the Russian Supergirl who everyone believes is Kara.

Luthor makes Olson's sister Superwoman, and Superwoman is on to the Russian Supergirl. She battles Supergirl, and comes off looking like the villain but in actuality is fighting for the right ideals and principles......

Now if they did That....call me impressed

Fun speculation. Truthfully, pretty much anything would be an improvement on the first eight episodes of season 4.
