Superman's daughter -- story concept

Another story what if... what if Powergirl had a daughter?

A far future-tale, where the Kara of Earth-2 (Powergirl) secretly had a daughter named Xara. The father is, of course, a now aging Kal El (who else could have done the super-deed?), but he is unaware that he has a child.

Presumably, Kara got pregnant during a moment where Kal had amnesia or something... have to come up with a device to explain why he doesn't know. He was off-planet for a year while she carried the child. Whatever.

As the story opens, Xara shows up at his Fortress of Solitude, claiming her right to Kryptonian citizenship or whatever. Kal disputes her, upon which she proves that she she's not only super, but that she's more powerful than he is now. And even more bulletproof, which she proves by aiming a deadly alien Disruptor at herself, a weapon that Kal knows would severely test his invulnerability.

The only effect is to burn her blouse and leave her breast glowing red-hot -- an effect she blatantly displays in an effort to impress him.

She then issues her youthful challenge... she wants him to retire. According to her, he's too soft, too willing to let criminals and terrorists be dealt with by the laws of the country they are captured in (which in many cases means they get off) and unable to take a life even if it means saving many more.

She has a far simpler approach to crime, terrorism and piracy... if someone kills or threatens to kill another person, then they die at her hands. No courts. Not police. No fuss.

Kal accuses her of being a vigilante, of encouraging lawlessness, but she doesn't buy it. Her logic is that if she rids the planet of such criminals, and if anyone considering a crime knows they will pay the supreme price, then she'll bring an end to such violence over time.

She just has to get Superman out of the way first, and given he is her father, she wants to let him retire on his own terms.

Question is... will Kal play along and fade away? He is old and increasingly frail (at least by Superman standards).

Can he even stop her if he wants to?

Where is her mother and what does she think? We know PG has always been too willing to use her fists, so she'll likely side with her daughter.

What about WW?

And will her approach to crime even work? Or will it simply make her into another super-criminal that the Justice League has to try and apprehend?

Is the world ready for this kind of heroine?

Are we ready?

Here's a pict (definitely NSFW, so be warned!) that illustrates her moment of proving to Kal El that she's even more super than he is. It takes but a glance to see that, without a doubt, she's her mother's daughter.

As I've said before I'm a Superman fan, so I'll take a stab to this.

The fact that he refuses to take a life is not a sign of weakness. It only illustrates an infantile knowledge of Superman

She has a far simpler approach to crime, terrorism and piracy... if someone kills or threatens to kill another person, then they die at her hands. No courts. Not police. No fuss.

No brains too. The world isn't that simple this is so wrong from so many points of view. The world isn't black and white.

Kal accuses her of being a vigilante, of encouraging lawlessness, but she doesn't buy it. Her logic is that if she rids the planet of such criminals, and if anyone considering a crime knows they will pay the supreme price, then she'll bring an end to such violence over time.

If you think about it, it's more than just that. She becomes a tyrant, a despot no different from the most evil persons we had in history.

Question is... will Kal play along and fade away? He is old and increasingly frail (at least by Superman standards).

For her welfare, for humanity and for what he stood for, NO.

Where is her mother and what does she think? We know PG has always been too willing to use her fists, so she'll likely side with her daughter.

From what I know, PG has a temper back in the silver age, more because she wanted to be treated equally and not be judged because she's a girl and for all her power she sure deserves it. I don't think she'll side with her.

About WW, I don't know what transpired after she killed Maxwell Lord and how the world court cleared her if anyone knows what is the consequence of killing a criminal its her.

For the record her approach to crime doesn't work today.

The world doesn't need someone like her and with that approach she doesn't have the right to be called a heroine.

Good comments... then the story can work.

The core transition will be to see how her experiences and misadventures in ill-conceived crime fighting brings her the point where she realizes her limitations. Like the drug wars in Mexico, or the "war against terror", violence simply breeds more of the same, and she can't fix things with her fists.

But first she has to get over her youthful perception that the seemingly finite number of criminals simply need to be eliminated to create peace and security What she doesn't understand is that human society can generate an infinite number of murderous criminals.

Once she realizes the futility of her approach, she'll either figure out how to deal with it, and work to remove the sources of the problems, or say to hell with humanity and find a more civilized planet to help.

Either way, there should be opportunities from some drama, both physical and emotional.

Retiring Superman seems to be an issue , but if his daughter was born on earth she may well be immune to Kryptonite , which would make her superior to her father, and perhaps even dangerous to him.

Seems the "meteor rock radiation" affects everyone, but in different ways. In his daughter's case, I'd already planned for it to affect her differently. Whether you still consider its effects on her to be dangerous will be a matter of perspective. It most definitely won't kill her.

And yes, the thought of a retired Superman generates some strong feelings. But eventually, he'll have to step aside.

Couple of things here.

First of all, Superman was pretty violent toward the criminals when he was first starting out. If Power Girl's daughter is going that route, it may be good to have him be the "Voice of Experience"

Second, concerning the effect of Kryptonite on her—what if it maks her more powerful? We know from the first two seasons of Smallville that meteor rocks can mutate Earthlings and give them strange powers. And since she's half Earthling, maybe the mutation will increase her Kryptonian powers a little more with every exposure?

If she's Kara (PG or SG) and Kal's daughter, then I figure she'll be like any other full-blooded Krypt. The differences between the members of the Argo City colony and the Kryptonian El's are minor. Both were equally affected by Kryptonite.

But, a daughter born on Earth, but will full Kryptonian blood... that's a question. Does the K susceptibility come from having lived on normal chunks of Krypton before it became radioactive, or simply a trait that all Krypts share, regardless of birth? That might be fun to explore

In the other discussion thread, where I was talking about other daughters with non-Kryptonian mothers, then the effects of Kryptonite could be wildly different. Including, as you suggest, a wild magnification of power or exhibiting bizarre abilities.

Interesting idea...

Just extending the subject a bit, I think there's possibility for this storyline to take off.

Was reading a comic called "Dynamo 5" about young super children of a superhero who supposedly has been "playing around". How about with all the kryptonian family members supposedly having had their fair share of flings, resulting in many off-springs?

That would be interesting... while presumably it would be impossible for a Kryptonian (or even half-Krypt) female to get pregnant with a normal guy (invulnerable ova, not to mention the obvious hazards from being in such intimate contact during a Krypt-grade orgasm -- those muscle of steel aren't confined to their biceps!), the Krypt-blooded guys would presumably be man's gift to women. Man of Steel and all, assuming he could keep from blowing her head off Niven-style. Presumable some of these guys would be playing around, especially given that in my universe, the Boy Scout from Kansas has done enough of that already.

Of course, we have an entire island of gorgeous Amazons who are strong enough to bend steel bars in their bare hands, and other than being mostly lesbians, would be more than capable of enjoying being on the receiving end of such attentions. Maybe the Amazons have a campaign to have daughters who are half Amazon and half Krypt so as to enrichen their bloodline. "Go into man's world and get knocked up by a Krypt campaign."

And one can't forget characters like She Hulk or Ms Marvel or even little Mary Marvel, or their iconic equivalents in this universe.

So it makes sense that there could be many angles to this, and its nice to see the mainline comics picking up the thread.
