A little demonstration of sparkling eyes

One thing turned into another at the bar after meeting an extraordinary blonde, her strange stories turning into drunken claims that I obviously didn't believe. But wanted to. I made the mistake in my half inebriated state of asking her for a demonstration of her claimed heat vision. Obviously it was all a game, but anything to get her out of the bar and into a more intimate setting. She led me to this old cave just outside of town that went back about fifty feet into the hillside before ending abruptly. It wasn't the kind of place I'd had in mind.

She told me to wait at the cave entrance as she hopped along nearly weightlessly until she was standing on a rock halfway into the cave. Turning, she stared at the back of the cave. I gave her points for acting, but I had other ideas for spending our time. And that's when all hell broke loose. Two red beams came from her eyes to impact the back wall, and suddenly an orange-red glow spread outward, turning nearly white-hot, as the entire back wall of the dave melted. The white glow slowly extended deeper into the hillside as molten rock came pouring out. The blast of heat was so intense that it singed my hair despite my standing just outside the cave entrance.

Turning back to face me, she gave me a look that said "told you so".

Jaw hanging, I sagged to my knees as I tried to comprehend the blast of heat that was threatening to ignite my clothing. Despite the booze, my head was suddenly clear as I realized I was seeing something that belonged in the comic books.

"Why are you so surprised?" she asked. "You wrote a hundred stories about someone like me. I figured you of all people would be able to handle the truth."

Nice vignette, probably the best among the three you posted.

Glad you liked this one. I also liked it best.

Vignettes (painting with words) sometimes strike a nerve and often don't. They aren't polished or even well thought out. Primitive attempts to fit a story to a picture. I still think they are fun to write and hopefully not just a waste of bandwidth.

My hope is always that the story continues in your heads, and down myriad paths I could never foresee.
