Just finished watching the first ep. I didn't watch critically this first time, just soaked up the flavor the way they delivered it, but I thought Jen was great fun, and the Hulk training was a hoot.

Won't say more to avoid spoiling... but I think this is going to be lite and fun and have plenty of great superstrength action.

Net, net... I definitely recommend it.

That link winds up pointing me to a favorites icon rather than the article. It should be noted that this article appears to have spoilers as it outlines parts of the plot that are not shown in any trailers I've seen or in the first episode so the writer clearly has access to some additional information.

The only thing I find confusing is why they changed the origin in such a strange way.

I think the Guardian article for the She-Hulk series looks very promising. A good write-up and looks far better than the guff that thor:love and thunder served up.

First episode was really good imo :)  Loved the tone of it :)

I think journos got to see the first 4 episodes, so that would explain why there could be some scenes explained that we haven't seen yet.

Personally, I'm staying away from all articles til the run is over :)

Looking forward to seeing the show progress :)

Peace.

Seems pretty obvious why.
There's both an ideological reason *and* a practical reason, just like there was for Kamala Khan.

The ideological reason is that in 2022, we can't have Jen "indebted" to a man for saving her life with a blood transfusion (that's on Gao and Coiro, I'm sure).

The practical reason is that the show needs to have the established character of Hulk to introduce and tie-in to the relatively unknown She-Hulk. The "Annie Get Your Gun" style banter between the two characters eases the transition.
Plus, they were able to tie in a hint to what's coming in the future for the Hulks in the MCU (probably some sort of World War Hulk movie) by involving the Sakaaran spaceship.

Enjoy the show!

While I get the ideological reason behind the origin change, I'm gonna bet this was for practical reasons.

With a half-hour runtime, it made sense to change it in the way they did.  You still get the origin in the sense its Bruce's blood that triggers it, without the additional scenes of having Jen in a hospital, having blood transfusion, etc. which could easily have taken the whole 25-30 mins of runtime.

For me, it worked fine tbh (and for sure I would be calling it out if it didn't :P

Peace.

I agree. I thought the origin change was fine, and not for idealogical reasons or anything like that. It was a 1 or 2 minute origin scene that got that out of the way so they could focus on the important stuff. Quite brilliant way to get some of Bruce's Hulk blood into her to cause a change without slowing the storytelling down.

That shows good judgement by the show runners to spend their time, money and focus where it's more fun. And it was a pilot, so it needed to impress. And it did.

I think it's also accurate that Hulk took a long time to get used to controlling his anger and power (at all), but that Jen had a much easier time. But once again, that adjustment period was extra brief in the show so they could check it off and get onto more interesting storytelling.

That's very encouraging as it says they believe they HAVE interesting storytelling to come and can't wait to roll it out.

The decision to change Jen’s origin came from the higher ups. They did not want to bring the mob into the story since there so many other storylines. So Jessica Gao started considering other options and thought it would work better if Bruce accidentally gave his blood to Jen. First, it made for a quick origin & they could get right into the story. Plus she said this:

‘Gao noted that Bruce willingly giving Jennifer his blood would have not been in line with his character as portrayed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to the Avenger viewing his special abilities as a burden rather than a benefit for the majority of his life. "For me, it just didn’t ring true for the Bruce Banner we know,” the writer said. "We’ve watched him over the course of a decade, and he’s struggled with this. He’s tormented by this. He saw it as a curse. It took him a decade to just get to a place of balance and acceptance. He never viewed it as a great thing. It forced him to not even have romantic relationships. I just can’t imagine Bruce would willingly choose to give what he saw as a curse."’

You could argue Bruce felt that way in the comics, too, but in the MCU, Bruce having to give an emergency transfusion didn’t make sense. Bruce was in control of the Hulk and he wasn’t hiding anymore. As Smart Hulk, he could have easily gotten Jen to a hospital.

Anything interesting in this series so far?

Major letdown (to me) when I heard about Titania having her powers from the start.

I was really hoping on some slow  road to getting/testing them out of jealousy.

There is a bit in the third episode where ‘The Wrecking Crew’ (who are just a bunch of thugs with Asgardian construction equipment) try to abduct Jen. She panics at first before remembering she can turn into She-Hulk and proceeds to beat the snot out of them.

And in the next episode she helps Wong take out a bunch of deamons.

In terms of superpower scenes, there's some good ones: my favourite so far is a scene where she effortlessly picks up a guy off her sofa and carries him past the camera (this scene is in the trailer too). There's also a mid-credit scene in episode #2 where she helps her Dad around the house, lifts the back end of a car, holds a big flatscreen TV and carries lots of water-cooler jugs.

I've been enjoying the series overall, mostly because there's always something that makes me laugh! I didn't enjoy the last episode (#5) so much because of the B-plot and the She-Hulk CG quality ranges from good to bad. Overall though I'd still recommend it for the humor, energy and especially for Tatiana Maslany's performance as Jennifer Walters.
