Hello all!
I was wondering what were the first occurences of superstrong women in movies or TV shows you can think of ... (Ok, I'm a throatlift buff , so I'm also especially interested in the first scene of a woman lifting a man or woman by the throat ...)
But that aside, I'm curious about early depictions of super(strong) women in general.
The earliest ones that I can think of are "Supernatural" from 1933 in which a woman who is possessed by the spirit of a serial killer has two or three scenes in which she shows supernatural strength (squeezing some kind of cup, choking her victims); and "Who done it" -- the first Benny Hill movie from 1956 in which a woman does several strength feats like lifting up the side of a piano with one hand, ripping phone books in half and throwing a couple of thugs out of a window.
After that were of course the obvious "Bionic Woman" and "Wonder Woman" in the late 70's ... and "Star Trek: TOS" (late 60's) as well as "Buck Rogers in the 25th century" (late 70's) had one occurence of a superwoman if I remember correctly.
Regarding throatlifts only a few from the early to mid 80's come to my mind, mostly in cheesy horror movies.
Any thoughts anyone?

I didnt know those two so thanks the earliest i know where female has superpowers in it i guess was last esp of orginal superman show i think it was 1955 all that glitters where lois lane as well jimmy olsen had superpowers in dream part esp, she bent a steel bar like putty, flew and smashed open a garage wall with one kick i seem to remember. Also where regular superwoman on tv i tend to think is sharon in champions from 1968 like the beginning of one esp moved her car with one hand with ease !

The earliest that I know about was All That Glitters which dave147 mentioned before. I guess Champions and the "I, Mudd" episode of Star Trek (where the girl crushed the communicator) were other early sightings as well.....
Earliest one I saw (besides BW and WW) that was non-mainstream was the "Incredible Mrs Jones" episode on Fantasy Island. I believe clips and
still abound around these parts if interested....
