Supergirl Movie (original)

Supergirl Movie (original) was created by angels
I'm gonna get crucified for this.

It's been about 5 years since I've seen the original supergirl movie and I saw it again the other night and I think I've gotten desensitized by the georgeous Steele family or something, because I found it to be actually boring. Yes, I understand that it's an actual big-screen representation of everything we're brought together for, and that means something and everything, but anymore I can't get past the terrible dialogue, the half-assed plot, and the silly "effects". I also am taking the date this movie was made and all, and understand that I'm a product of movies like The Matrix and X-Men and all that fun stuff, but even so, I honestly can't get into the old supergirl movie anymore, aside from ogling pictures of Helen Slater...

... maybe it's just me?
... please be gentle...

It's not just you.

The plot was the silliest thing ever put to celluloid. Helen Slater did a good job with what she had to work with, but even a good performance by her wasn't going to save that movie.

If you get a chance, go read runwayman's remake over at The Supergirl Movie Project and try to imagine the same actors playing the same characters as the original as you read it and see if that might have been a much better movie.

I've already read runwayman's versions and I wish that my imagination was a bit more tangible.

I kind of agree although it is well worth sitting through all the dodgy moments just for Slater as Supergirl - It seems given all the amazing effects that can now be applied and how every man with a pulse would want to see a beautiful actress in the costume kicking arse a remake will come evenutally...Right?

It was a trainwreck, a trainwreck I can barely watch, and I paid money for the DVD (15760 or 50,000)

Superman was "boring" in a different way, slow origin but lead to good stuff. Supergirl was al over the place, and it makes me sad that IMO the Director's Cut is probably worse than the original/international cut.

You know what? I just posted another short Supergirl animation called "Trapped" on my website and I'm halfway through another animation (this one an action sequence over a minute long) and I came to this forum with all the intention of letting you guys know about it. I was even thinking of posting a preview of the fight animation so you'd have something to see while I finish it.

Then I saw this thread.

In case you don't know me, or you haven't visited the dccomics boards in the past month or so, let me tell you that the easiest way to tick me off is to badmouth the Supergirl movie. It's not something I take lightly. It makes me want to rant. And I'm not a nice person when I rant. Believe me, I'd know.

But what the hell. I'm a lifelong atheist. By now I should be used to the notion that the majority of the people disagree with me for incredibly stupid reasons. So I'm not going to rant. I'm not going to put a virus in your computer and erase everything. I'm not going to clean your bank accounts or send your girlfriends and mothers pictures of you doing the horizontal mambo with a ferret.

But I'm not posting the preview of the fight animation any time soon either.

Well, okay, I'll post it but I'm not telling you when I post it.

Lighten up!

Four members (out of 261) express disappointment with the Supergirl movie -- and you're ready to pick up your marbles and go home.

I'm not an atheist, but I AM something of a contrarian ... so yes, I'd expect that you would be used to the fact that there are people who disagree with you. (Though I acknowledge that my reasons may be as feeble as I think theirs are!)

Actually, I kind of like that movie ... but I agree that the story line is incoherent and I keep my finger on the fast-forward button whenever I put it on.

But geez -- is it really worth (as the Brits so vividly put it) getting your knickers in a twist?

The contrarian journalist H. L. Mencken received lots of mail from outraged readers -- to which he usually responded with a postcard reading "You're probably right."

My $.02 --

Oh, geez, Argonaut, I thought the bit about the ferret would make it clear that I was mostly just kidding. I suppose the problem is that I do British humor and nobody gets it.

I do tent to rant when someone badmouths Supergirl but that's mostly because it's my favorite subject to rant about and I find ranting to be highly therapeutic. And yes, I do love the Supergirl movie and I do feel it has the best plot of any superhero movie ever made. Granted, that says a lot more about how abominably bad the plots of most superhero movies are (including Superman I and II, Batman, Spider-man I and II, and X-Men) than about whether or not the plot of Supergirl was any good, but still...

So, for the record, I will be posting the preview of the animation I'm working on and I will indeed tell you guys about it when I do with the (admittedly delusional) hope that you'll give me some feedback about it.

And on the subject of feedback, a lot of people seem to enjoy downloading my scripts, games and movies, but rather few seem to take a few seconds of their time and vote in my polls, which I'm slightly ticked off about quite honestly. So I would be greatly encouraged to make more and longer animations, games and write more scripts if I saw the numbers in my polls go up a bit. And if you have the time, swing by www.bluetights.net and vote for Vengeful Minds and The Drifter there too and please be honest about it.

(The previous message was brought to you by the Association For The Desperate Search For Feedback and CNN.)

Maybe you've seen this already:

Whedon's version of WW seems to be a done deal now. No word yet about casting.
