New Man of Steel Trailer
I know it's not ubergirl-centric, but there is a strong rumor that Supes squares off against a Kryptonian villainess (Faora) in this one. Sadly, nothing to report on that front from the trailer, but it still looks pretty darn good. I think they might have gotten it right -- finally!

I hope that you are right. However, I can still smell the stench that was Superman Returns...

I won't hold my breath in the meantime.

The director for "The Dark Knight" series involved.
I don't see how this will be bad. At all.
I'm looking forward to it!

I think you hit the nail on the head on why I still hold out some hope for this movie. I've not been thrilled with what I've seen so far - but - for the reasons you mentioned I haven't thrown the baby out with the bath water yet.
I might not be in line to see it the opening weekend but I might give it a second weekend shot if there is positive buzz here.
*I* don't even know what kind of SM movie or characterization would make me happy anymore.

I agree with Random here.
Superman is generally one of the hardest characters to properly write. Batman is - by comparison - a lot easier.
This new movie might be very good or very bad. I honestly can't figure out by the trailers. But. I really hope that, if they decided to go down the "Batman Begins" route, I hope they were smart enough to tweak the thing to make it work with Supes. Instead of just using the same "Tropes collection" and slapping it over Superman.

Put Tom Welling in the suit, let Joe Johnston direct it, crank up the scale and the action and call it a day.
Nolen is great, but angst and pessimism is not what Superman is about. Maybe (hopefully) we are seeing "the darkness before the dawn" in this trailer. But I'm fearful that all we will end up with is darkness.

Along with overthinking it, does anyone know WHY the entertainment division at DC/WB continues to spin-off these iconic characters without their trademark name? It's Man of Steel, not Superman....It's Dark Knight, not Batman.....it's Arrow, not Green Arrow....CW is developing Amazon, not Wonder Woman....
Just strikes me a little strange that they don't leverage the character name more. I mean, we KNOW who they are, but the studios seem to be going out of their way to distance themselves from the original character names. I dunno, maybe I'M overthinking it....

To me they are giving the character depth. If you think about who Superman is, where he came from, the weight on his shoulders, what people expect of him...
I always thought that Superman was too two-dimensional in most interpretations in the comics. All-Star Superman in 2011 was my favorite look at the Man of Steel because it showed a flawed character, to an extent. Even Superman isn't perfect.
To make the movie like the Avengers would be a mistake, IMO. The Avengers was a great film, but it was an action film. Superman deserves more than that.
Like Lfan said, maybe I'M over thinking it.

Agreed one of my favorites as well.
As to Supes being handcuffed by the military, what better way for such a person to show they mean no harm, than to surrender to people who can't do anything to him? I think that part of the theme of the movie is getting the world to trust Superman. After all if a real superhuman showed up how many of us would trust the person? They would have to prove themselves which maybe is what Superman is going to do.

Unfortunately there´s almost zero Faora on the trailer, she only appears in the background in a quick Kripton Shot.

Still, the scenes showing superman powers and aerial fights are promising, I´m sure there will be some nice uber-bad girl action.

I've purposely avoided reading anything about the movie, but those screenshots piqued my interest.
Thnx.

But don't get me wrong. I wish they made a movie where we only get to see Supergirl and Ursa having super powered pillow fights. But that wouldn't end up on the big screen
