Underworld getting rebooted!

So says the Hollywood Reporter this past Wed.
So, Lakeshore Entertainment couldn't get Kate Beckensale to star in a 4th film, so they decide to just start all over again?!

UnderWorld movies-especially the first one is a *bueatiful* movie. In an abstract world it probabbly could have been nominated for an Oscar for Production Design and Cinemotography. It looks good. And for the time unique.

The *idea* of the story-Vampires and Werewolves as Romeo and Juliet is an intresting One. The *idea* of Kate Beckingsales Selene as this uberbaddas no nonsense action heroine is intresting-and at points it even is. Some of the action sequences are good, and Beckingsale is a good actress who knows how to sell it--. of this and movies like Resident Evil, and its clones-she is by far the best at it.

The problem---well its deadly dulll...the Story in all of the movies tends to be exposition on top of exposition delivered by slumming visibly bored british actors. (though it must be noted Micheal Sheen in the first one is kind of fun) Beckinsale and Scott Speedman never had anything aproaching Chemestry which makes the grand rommance elements uninspired-and one of the effects of the Vampires Vs. Werewolves is we never get a sence of human characters something a good vampire movie needs-hell the fact that Selene Drinks blood is totally incidental to the story at all-she may as well be a superhero.

So--the movies are crap.But theres a good idea somewhere-and its possible that it could even be done. One of the things i have seen done in the last couple of years is fan films-Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Power Rangers- just today batgirl--i would say there are ways of making things intresting-and if they find a way to push it in that direction-i donno may work.

Or this could just be way to extend a surprisingly popular franchise(that is yes centered on A Female protagonist) into a 5th probabbly much lower budget movie.

As Kevin Eastman said of the Tenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie "The idea that there alien monsters could work. it could be intresting. Its not likely or anything, but stranger thing have happened"

Despite what fans say, Beckinsale is getting too old for the role. Even in Underworld 4, she definitely looks way older than before whereas the plot requires her to be forever young. So, I've never believed in a fifth movie with her.

Did they decide to reboot the series to keep milking the cow? That's fine for me... I'll see what comes out of it. If it's bad I'll just ignore it.

It's a real pity Beckinsale can't take that role anymore. In my mind, she fights with Vandervoort for the most beautiful woman in the world award

The first Underworld was a mighty fine piece of fantasy/sci-fi blend... makes me want to watch it again.

Underworld and Resident Evil are the two best sources of superbabe material in movies for a long time, and it´s some kind of abnormality really, franchises with a powerfull woman as the lead? I´m glad to know that Underworld will go on, but sad that beckinsale wil be out she was fantastic as Selene. Also loved the fact that she was given MORE powers and strenght as the series went on, it´s usually the other way around.
