I enjoyed the movie. This is the type of movie, IMHO, that you just sit back and relax to enjoy. Don't take it to serious. :)

I really enjoyed Deadpool too.

It was never going to be some well respected piece of art: this is Deadpool. I think the movie was everything it was supposed to be and needed to be. That includes breaking the fourth wall and bouncing around in time to tell the story. I'm not a huge Deadpool fan so I can't talk to how faithful the facts of the story are -- but they got the essence right.

I'll have to watch again to judge the fight scenes properly but a few things were done well esp with their budget. Colossus' look isn't great but it was good enough.

Part of the fun is the total silliness of it all. Wade screaming "don't make my super suit green! Or worse animated!" Which of course is referring to Ryan Reynolds much dumped on green lantern movie, and the green lantern animated show I actually like but lots of people don't.

The movie is chock full of those things, but it should be. I dont think any of them make the movie suffer though -- if you don't catch them they still work.

Not sure how well it'll hold up to repeated viewings though. I'll probably go see it with friends again so I'll judge that.

Deadpool is killing it at the Box Office

$47 million on Friday alone.

I plan on seeing it on Sunday.

Having said that I really don't want to see a flood of R rated Superhero movies.

Saw it last night. Top notch.

The most mind blowing thing is it is ACTUALLY a good movie. Not just a 'comic book' movie. Well written. Creative storytelling. Lots of great 4th-wall-bending-or-breaking moments.

Curious what this does for DC movies and Warner brothers

The reason i bring this up is that there are four studios at this point actively making supehero movies -Marvel(Disney), Sony, Fox and Warner Brothers.

Marvel devoloped a very set formula that they have deviated from but lets go with it-lets Make more or less Comedies of various types(skrewball in GOTG, Rommatic in thor, Caper in Antman, and psedo indie in Iron Man) and treat the superhero action ellements as less important mostly. The ratio of C>A is diffrent, but getting the comedy is most important". And thats worked very well for them.

Sony in the most recent Spiderman movie seemed to be kinda going there, but not quit. Spiderman himself was always funny, and the love story was a rommanticcomedy but the actual plot line it treated vey seriously-and they have more or less said that was a mistake.

But Fox in the X men films and Fantastic Four movies was more or less trying to be serious. there is comedy in all of there movies, but i wouldn't call any of them comedies(you could make an arguement for the 2002 Fantastic Four film but lets forget about that). There introduce the X men let them have adventures facing villians and trying to treat it respecfully...and that went okay for them. None of them where gigantic sucesses but they where sucesses. Same with a couple of Movies Marvel tried (such as the Captian america movies, the hulk) that deviated a bit from the comedy formula.

. Now Deadpool is already after 3 days more sucsefull then the Wolverine there last Lone superhero movie. It looks like it maybe a gigantic hit. And its more then any really of the marvel movies other then perhaps Gotg, which tonally it most resembles a straightup comedy. It is More Marvel then marvel as it breaks the forth well, its ridiculus jokes, and its not really caring very much about its plot or its action.

Which leaves Warner Brothers..As pretty much the only studio doing movies trying to be serious movies. They have had great sucess with it, but there more expensive spectacle movies like Green Lantern and Man of Steel have kinda underperfomred-kinda curious what happens to the genre after Sucide Squad.

Another question for Warner Bros. is:
Deadpool is an R rated movie.
Why is Suicide Squad PG- 13?

The producers of The Wolverine 3 are mulling over if it should get an R rating.

It was just announced today that a Director's cut of Batman vs Superman with a R rated version available on DVD later this year.

Looks like the floodgates are opening.

The conventional wisdom has always been that you couldn't have a blockbuster, tentpole, franchise film series with an R rating. so even something that should so OBVIOUSLY be an R, like Suicide Squad, has to be scrubbed down to the lower rating. Deadpool has turned that old chestnut on its ear, so it will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm not sure that Deadpool qualifies as a "Blockbuster" since it's budget was 58 Million (and actually had it's budget cut by 7 million). Suicide Squad's budget is much higher than that. I really couldn't find a good mark for it, but i'd be surprised if it wasn't > $160 Million. I saw one page that claimed it was $250M. It's got a lot more named stars in it.

Sure Deadpool has made money even on a $250M budget ... but it wouldn't have been a good bet.

I also think there is a good argument that the reduced budget made Deadpool a better movie. They cut things that probably wouldn't have made the movie better (long motorcycle chase). They _could_ have spent more and made a better movie, but it'd have been hard to top what they filmed. Colossus could have been rendered better but he worked well enough.

Aside from that, I think the lower budget is what allowed the risk of making the movie with an R rating, and that enabled them to make a good movie, as it fit the topic. Too much risk in Suicide Squad for them to have gambled on the R. (Even now, post Deadpool.)

I know the original Budget For Sucide Squad was suposed to be 75-80. I am sure they they have raised it a touch when the brought on Will Smith, but honestly beyond him i doubt thers anyone in the 20 million dollar range-and i donno about that-hes not a gigantic drawing star these days.

I would be very suprised if this is over 120 million. Generally movies above this have gigantic SFX Budgets, which isn't something i have seen so far to suggest that(i am sure theres plenty but not all that big so far). And generally there is something like accounting tricks-ie Avatar. its stated budget 315, about a 100 of which went into building studio space.

Honestly regarding the rating-i am sure it hasn't been rated yet. its possible if a cut gets an R rating they leave it but who knows.

Just saw this last night with some friends and I have to say:

It was fantastic!

This movie was exactly what I envisioned a Deadpool movie should be while reading Deadpool comic books. It was almost 100% faithful to the source material.

Of course, there is no way I am showing this to my kids (which reportedly some parents did) until they are much older.

As for Gina Cararo, I thought she played the villain pretty well. I still can't believe some fans on the internet were clamoring for her to play Wonder Woman. She is clearly all wrong for that role. Internet fanboys, you gotta love 'em...
