Tessa Thompson has been cast in Thor: Ragnarok, as a love interest for Thor. Latino Review says she's player Valkyrie!

Cate Blanchett is rumored to be playing Hela as well.

Valkyrie's are tall and blonde, athletic and very Nordic:

Tessa is short and not blonde:

Not sure what else to say about the casting.

I have to agree, one bad casting decision.

Although there is a -- questionable -- precedent having Idrid Elba playing Heimdall, I won't give much credit to such a voice. From what I was able to gather she's supposed to replace Natalie Portmann's Jane Foster as the main love interest and, I think, in comics froma couple of years ago Thor was dating a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent called Roz, which would be a much better fit.

Are people here really mentioning what Valkyries look like in relation to the Thor movie?

A movie in which Thor himself doesn't look like Thor? (He's generally described as scruffy, red-haired, red bearded, not the golden locked, nicely turned out Chris Hemsworth.)

Nor does he wear his gauntlets or his belt, or fly around in his cart pulled by goats (with the added benefit of always having an evening meal)

i.e. these are not the mythological Asgardians, they're the people who inspired the legends. Legends the humans got wrong, never had the full story, or simply remembered wrong.

Sure i'd much rather see some tall nordic Valkyries -- I like really powerful women so seeing some on screen would be fantastic.

But people seem happy with Sif, who I might add is NOT golden haired, like she's described either.

So, it's all ok because the original character mistakes were in the 1960's when Kirby and Lee created the Thor comic and it's canon in the comics now, so it's all ok.

Whatever. The movie gets the same rights to tweak around with things that the comics got. We as viewers get to decide if we like this new version of the story or not. This is how the game is played.

I don't know anything about her as an actress, or the presence she bring on screen. That's all I care about.

Jaimie Alexander carries her self well on screen despite her arms being a bit twiggy compared to what I'd expect from Sif or a Valkyrie.

I mean they're not casting Alyssa Loughran, much as I'd like to see her on screen, they're going after an actress. (Though Alyssa has acted, I suspect that she's probably not in Tessa Thompson's league, even though looking far more the part. And man would I like to see someone do a super-hero short with her to see how she'd do.)

I could get behind that casting, ToT! I'm hoping Alyssa does a Powergirl or She-Ra short video one day!

I'll say! I first learned about the Norse gods from Thor comics as a kid long before I encountered the actual legends. Imagine my surprise when I found out the image Vikings had of death goddess Hela was not a Las Vegas showgirl wearing a Mardi Gras mask and a wetsuit with green electric circuits printed on.

The 60s Marvel guys were amazing at re-imagining civilizations like this. I guess it was mainly Kirby.

I would immediately fund the Kickstarter for any such film. Her cosplay of both characters is amazing.

Here she is in a short ( it's the only acting clip,I know of, there are some fitness related ones):

Not agianst her casting-she seems fine-but the story seems to be that shes there largely to replace Natalie Portmans Jane Foster.

While portman performance itself was mainly okay, i will say this-the idea of her character and the rommance with thor was kind of the movies main selling point for me. A God, kind of bumbling his way through the real world was a much better movie then anything they did in asgard. And this looks really asgard with not anything to ground it, that can be kind dire.

I understand why Jamie Alexander May not return-shes got her own show now...but man...
