Captain Marvel: Cryptic Clue Dropped About Possible Casting & D

23 Apr 2016 20:09 #47430 by fats
hi all,

As the mighty Marvel Cinematic Universe rolls on, it surely can’t be too long until we start getting some definitive news on their first female solo movie, ‘Captain Marvel.’

The movie based around one of Marvel’s mightiest heroes, USAF pilot turned cosmically-empowered super-being Carol Danvers, was among the projects confirmed by Marvel as part of their five-year plan slate revealed in October 2014.

However, 18 months on all we know for sure about ‘Captain Marvel’ is that Nicole Perlman (co-writer of ’Guardians of the Galaxy’) and Meg LeFauve (’Inside Out’) are collaborating on the screenplay, and its (revised) release date is 8 March 2019.

However, it may be that we get some bigger news sooner rather than later - and one well-connected film reporter has given us a rather cryptic clue as to which actress and director might be in the running.....

More here.

Interesting article. I'm almost 100% it will be Emily Blunt (I called it a lock a while back - check my post history :P ) , though I do find the combination of Katheryn Winnick (who looks amazing) and Kat Bigelow (who is a director I admire a lot - love Strange Days and Point Break) fascinating.

Either way, like this article, and others, have said, an announcement should be coming real soon.

Look forward to it :)

Peace.

Don't need to check any history... I accept that you may have been one of the first voices to say Emily. Seems like a fine choice to me.

The Carol Danvers character has to have some sharp edges given her history. You don't easily become a fighter pilot and then Chief of Security at Cape Kennedy, not to mention a covert operative in an intelligence service. Each of those would be a career high for any woman, but she combines all three. That would make her very tough, determined and adaptable. Not to mention smart.

I can't imagine a better human to get the powers of the Kree than Carol Danvers. Given her exceptional skills, she can handle gaining near Kryptonian powers better than most.

More importantly, I think Emily could step up and become a convincing Carol. Lets hope they give her a script worthy of both the character and the actress.

Winnick has been a favorite of mine for years....but I don't think she would even be in the running. For starters, by Marvel standards (who are fairly concerned with age), she's too old to start a franchise. They're petrified that RDJ is as old as he is. Winnick is already well into her 30s (as amazing as she is). I just don't see them going for that. :(

Second, I think she actually looks a little too much ScarJo. They have different builds, but facially, I think they have a strong resemblance.

I read somewhere Marvel was chasing Brie Larson? I've also head Blunt (of course) and Jessica Chastain.

"One Avenger that is front and center in Civil War II for Marvel Comics is Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige talked with Fandango about when to expect an announcement on a director and casting for the ‘Captain Marvel’ film.

“I think we’ll be announcing a filmmaker in the next month or two, and probably some cast members later in the summer, at the end of the summer,” said Feige.

This year’s San Diego Comic-Con is from July 21-24. Is that late enough in the summer for Feige, or is the MCU mastermind planning another private Marvel Studios event to unveil plans for Phase Four. (The Phase Three announcement was in October 2014.) Marvel has three unannounced films planned for 2020."

Guess we will find out then exactly who it is :)

Peace.
