Though if you remember, long ago (pre-Avengers) DC turned down his script/directing for Wonder Woman.

Interesting that Batgirl is getting a chance.

I mostly like Joss's writing, and I absolutely love some of it (Firefly).

Does anyone remember what the issue was with the WW script? There was a lot of talk about it at one time among fans, but I can't recall the gist of it.

It was only ever an outline script by Joss for Wonder Woman. WB threw it back at him and he had another go and it came to nothing. Really looking forward to the new Wonder Woman franchise by the way!

Rumors around the web are spreading about actress Lindsay Morgan, of the CW's The 100 being up for the lead role.

I'm stretching my memory a bit but I think Whedon's WW script had her being washed up on a beach in "Man's World" with no memory of who or what she was and the rest was just her finding herself. I have no idea of the details. Actually, I'm surprised I can remember that much...

In any event, WB did not like it and it never got made.

As for Whedon doing Batgirl, I have mixed feelings. Sure, I loved Buffy and Firefly, and The Avengers is still in my top five CBMs of all time. However, Avengers:AOU was terrible and the overall way the MCU has been treating its female heroes has been lackluster, especially Black Widow. Now I realize some of that could have come from powers above Whedon and there was obviously some friction there during the AOU press tour. I guess just color me skeptical for now...

Heck, this Batgirl movie may not happen just like the Whedon WW movie never happened. We'll just have to see.

This actually seems like a good fit.

The one thing about Whedon the writer-and the director, is he thrives on Smart. Characters who get by on there witts, sometimes there body can cash sometimes they can't. Buffy obviously is all about the dialouge, same with Firefly the avengers, which is all smart. Not to say he is the smartest, but the appereance of.

Of all the characters male or females in comics, i kind of think of Batgirl is the one i most associate with smart.

Which isn't to say-oh but genius like Reed Richard, Lex Luthor, what ever... not genius but smart.
shes the one whose basic concept is "i think may way out of these problems". "I have a photographic memory, let me use it"

It could be a fun fit, and wish him luck on it.

The studio had plans for no Black Widow in the Avengers movie.
Whedon drew the line in the sand and we got Black Widow.
And she is one of the MCU's most popular characters.
So he has that going for him.

I am all for a Batgirl movie.
I am a bit of a dinosaur and would love to see this incarnation:

rather than her modern version

From all directors in the business, he's one of few that get female protagonists right (not as well as Brian de Palma, Adrian Lyne or Ridley Scott, or even JJ Abrams). (he's on the level of James Cameron and Luc Besson on that)

I hope that it will be DC's departure from the dark muddy gritty their 'verse' it has become. Not the best director in the world, but he is competent to reimagine DC superheroes away from that without being campy.
