Some Amazons like skimpy outfits
And they like them!
www.usatoday.com/story/life/entertainthi...ooke-ence/861219001/
One actress was quoted:
As she recalls, not every warrior wore a two-piece, and "the girls on set, we never thought of (the new costumes) as a sexy version. It felt a little more glamorous, if anything, because we had bigger, beautiful hair, which I loved."
She refers to the other women as "Girls"
She likes glamorous clothes.
She loves Big, beautiful hair.
That's my kinda woman.
Kinda goes against everything we have been told about women not liking sexy superhero outfits.

Ah, these are models and actors and bodybuilders, etc. Their profession involves showing off their exceptionally developed. bodies. So yeah, sexier and more revealing works for them, especially when they are getting paid to dress like that in a movie.
However, I suspect their thoughts probably don't accurately represent the sentiments of the average woman.

I still believe the majority of women (and men) like seeing attractive people to good looking clothes.

"I’m an athlete first, right? (Usually,) I can’t wear anything without someone commenting about my (muscular) body. So for me, it was actually really cool to be able to show it and not immediately feel masculine, but still very feminine."
She's a big girl, quite strong, and also gorgeous. So it's great that she got to feel that way on set.

When it comes to extremely muscular women, Brook is the most attractive I've ever seen. I like the shape of her. And given she's so far over the top, it's nice that she's decided to show rather than hide herself.
But she's in the 1 out of maybe 10 million (100 million?) women when it comes to muscular development and beauty combined.

That shot above reminded me of this video:
Video games being just as bad at selling sex rather than any realistic idea of protection that armor might afford. Like any cisgender male, I enjoy looking at the ladies but it always requires extra suspension of disbelief and the realization that one is simply being pandered to. My eyes might not like it as much, but I would actually be pleasantly surprised if they made the armor appropriate such as they do on GoT for the most part.

I am perfectly OK with superpowered, immortal Amazons having impractical armor.
Just like the high heels on Wonder Woman's boots.

When I see Lynda Carter in a red, gold and blue swimsuit with white stars, deflecting bullets, I ok with that. At no point do I think "gee that looks unrealistic" lol
Peace,

P.S. As a player of MMORPGs, that video was HILARIOUS Tnx for posting

Then again, I have the same continuity issues at times when reading our genre. Crushing a steel barbell was effortless, but lifting a car took effort......ummm o.k.
Fine, I'm wierd

The two sets below are supposed to be the same armor?!

As far as the general thread discussion, I prefer the original look for the Amazons, but this is just a matter of personal preference. I think it touched a good mid-spot between being sexy and being look like armor.
If we look at it from a historical prespective it could make perfect sense for them to go into battle naked: armor is effective when it defeats the "weapon of the day", if the Amazons are strong enough to pierce their own armor with any possible weapon, then the armor becomes effectively useless and need to be redesigned completely. We can reasonably assume that after the battle on Themiscyra in 1918 the Amazons realized that armor wasn't any good against bullets and started discarding it. This might not be the smartest decision, but it's a possibility.

Exactly my thinking. When guns arrived on the battlefield plate armor went away as ineffective and cumbersome.
In 2017 modern battle armor is still heavy and has a tough time protecting soldiers from modern weapons.

You make valid points about armor but I doubt seriously that such consideration was given when designing their armor for the movies or in the comics. They wear exactly what they need to in order to sell to male fantasies so I'm guessing the bikinis are actually spot on. Not exactly appropriate in the current climate, however, so we'll see how this is received if it ends up in the movie.
Movie armor - a place where storm troopers wear full head to toe armor that not only doesn't protect them from their contemporary weapons but can't keep them from getting beat up by primitive Ewoks. It only serves the purpose of making them faceless red-shirts to be killed and is a device that keeps the on-screen blood to a minimum.

If you look at the picture at the top of this thread the Amazons are standing next to a modern vehicle and one is in the driver's seat.
100 years is not unreasonable to catch up especially with Diana on the outside feeding them Intel.

In the case of armor in MMORPG culture (specifically WoW), there is term for dressing up your character in the skimpiest armor - "Slutmog". (comes from the term "Transmog", which (simply) means to change the appearance of your armor to one of your choosing). Theses players seek out the skimpiest armor in game, often going back to older content they have long since passed.
I have several characters that are female in games, and I must confess, I'm one of those
Here is my approximation of Wonder Woman (even had a few players in the game whisper me and give compliments lol)
And here is what I usually wear when healing 20 player dungeons
Peace.

They don't so much anymore. Put up with it. Hopefully.

I was kidding Shadar. Of course they do - as long as the guy looks like Brad Pitt . Cultural norms may change, but people still do the dance and everyone likes sex and connections. If that weren't the case - evolution would be highly overrated. As someone who has a number of friends with girls in the millennial range, they don't act any different than the girls I knew did at that age (save all the electronic connection that was absent for us.) The boys that pursue them (and in some cases the complete morons they end up breeding with) are also no different. Government has replaced the provider in some of these cases, but even that doesn't change the pursuit of relationship, social connection, or sex. Biologically, we're still human, warts and all.
Or as a good friend of mine once put it: You know what you call a straight guy who doesn't pursue women? Alone.

This is one of the worst areas of Star Wars world-building -- exotic armor that doesn't work. But it's the usual human trend of dehumanizing your opponent to remove any moral impediment to killing them. We do that in every war on Earth, but Star Wars took it to the extreme by creating armies of identical armored human "robots".
That's why I enjoyed the change when Finn pulled off his helmet in Force Awakens and humanized a Star Trooper. Very 21st century. The enemy are simply people with mostly the same thoughts and fears and dreams as the rest of us,
But the heck with armor. I like my characters to have either skin that can't be pierced or a biological force field (ala Kryptonians or Velorians). When the most effective armor is bare skin, the opportunities for clothing become very interesting, especially given it's going to get shot away anyway.
And bullet holes in clothing, with an unharmed lovely beneath, is pretty much where my kink lives. I'm still waiting for Kara to appear in a scene wearing just her civvies and have most of her clothing shot away by some bad guy. Leave some strategically placed rags to keep a PG rating.
But then, Kryptonian mythology says that their bio-field extends far enough to protect tightly fitting clothing. Of course, that doesn't explain why her skirt doesn't get shot away every week!

Let's not forget that, until that point, the saga had led us to believe that they were all clones of Jango Fett. I think it served two purposes: the one you mentioned and that something fundamentally was changing after the Empire.

When Hela first emerges in Thor: Ragnarok, her outfit is somewhat tattered with unblemished Blanchett skin underneath. I think she magically fixes it after shattering Thor's hammer when she conjures her famous headdress.
