When Hela first emerges in Thor: Ragnarok, her outfit is somewhat tattered with unblemished Blanchett skin underneath. I think she magically fixes it after shattering Thor's hammer when she conjures her famous headdress.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but am looking forward to it. I'm a big Cate fan. She'll always be Galadriel to me.

Of course this happened... its a Zack Synder movie as opposed to a movie directed by a woman. The memes will follow when this becomes more mainstream. Mark my words.

If we look at it from a historical prespective it could make perfect sense for them to go into battle naked: armor is effective when it defeats the "weapon of the day", if the Amazons are strong enough to pierce their own armor with any possible weapon, then the armor becomes effectively useless and need to be redesigned completely. We can reasonably assume that after the battle on Themiscyra in 1918 the Amazons realized that armor wasn't any good against bullets and started discarding it. This might not be the smartest decision, but it's a possibility.

Exactly my thinking. When guns arrived on the battlefield plate armor went away as ineffective and cumbersome.
In 2017 modern battle armor is still heavy and has a tough time protecting soldiers from modern weapons.

That is something of a misconception. Plate armor was actually very effective against early firearms and remained a decent line of defense until the later 17th century, when the introduction of the musket made most of the armor of the day uneffective. Later on armor resurfaced during the napoleonic wars as a defense for infantry against artillery shrapnel. Still the general logic still apply.

Let's not forget that, until that point, the saga had led us to believe that they were all clones of Jango Fett. I think it served two purposes: the one you mentioned and that something fundamentally was changing after the Empire.

While Finn taking his helmet off was good moment, I prefer some bits from Rogue One, at some point during the infiltration sequence we overhear a couple of stormtroopers chatting idly about the pros and cons of a new blaster issued to some units. I think that was a good humanizing moment for them.

you know it's a serious issue when the BBC covers it.

Sadly, the early reviews seem lukewarm re: Justice League and that the Amazons are barely in it. I doubt the outfits or lack thereof will make a blip on the radar over the noise of a marginal release.

I much prefer Patty Jenkin's idea of Amazon costumes. They just seemed right. Not that I'm opposed to skimpy, but Patty got the tone right.

Snyder...? I'm sure his direction on day one was: "Make the costumes smaller, sexier, more modern."

Want to bet Patty's Amazons in WW#2 will look like they did in WW#1?

I'd have to go back and watch it again but a couple of points. First, a couple of generations have passed since the clones. Second, I seem to remember Finn mentioning that he was removed from his family as a child and forced to serve. If that is how they have maintained their armies, it leads to some potential interesting plot lines (which I'm guessing they aren't going to explore.) It also makes the Finn character unlikely. A child soldier brainwashed from an early age? Hard to square with how he's behaving now. Yes, it's a movie, suspend disbelief and enjoy the moment, but I actually would find a story line exploring that to be interesting. We certainly have examples in real life of child soldiers to draw upon. Probably all a bit too much for a Disney / fantasy / geared towards kids movie. Let Mary Sue do her thing :).

Now, if only they could have paid Timothy Zahn for some plotlines.....

Seriously, I was not planing on seeing this movie until it trickled down to a free showing on TV.
I may go now just to support the Amazons and their impractical attire!
Long live Fantasy and Fantastic Women!

Mr. Snyder thanks you.

I also plan to see it once I can stream it.

Costumes are a nit. The real question is how good is the storytelling? Is the tone closer to Thor:Ragnarok or closer to BvS?

From what I've heard it's leaning toward B vs S lite.

For the record I:
Hated MoS. I only saw it once.
Disliked B vs S
Absolutely HATED Suicide Squad. Had to watch it in chunks. could not stand still for any length of time. I thought it was the worst major movie I've seen in years.
I liked Wonder Woman. Good movie.

Probably not seeing Justice League for awhile..

I'll watch anything with a Kryptonian in it.

By the way, I just saw that WW#2 has been moved up from mid-Dec (where it conflicted with a Star Wars release) and it's now set for Nov 1. Six weeks less to wait.

Unfortunately, the year is still 2019. Yeah... two years from now.

The early reviews have basically been saying they tried to lean more towards Marvel in tone but instead ended up a little bland. Most said it wasn't bad, it just wasn't great either so a step up from BvS but disappointingly not noteworthy and certainly (to the critics) a letdown from WW.

Some were disappointed it went Marvel instead of keeping its own identity and grimdark tone. Who knows. Some of the critics hoping for more woman power seemed unhappy with the WW shots in the movie in that they seemed more eye candy than anything else.

Who knows. I have no dog in the DC / Marvel game as I like both so I'll watch and see how they take it. Even if it isn't great it sounds better than the BvS train wreck. Also - they are critics and my own taste in films doesn't always mirror the critic reviews. It's going to be hard to top Thor, however, and you know that's going to be a headline.

Edit: The BIGGEST complaint among the critics was that the bad guy was mostly pathetic. Lack of a good or well played bad guy can make or break a movie. A number of them used Hela as an example of a bad guy (girl) done well.

I haven't seen JL yet, and like others, plan to watch it on a stream (or late night tv), so I can't give a full critique.

The critical reviews, in the main, generally are what I expected though.

If anyone has read my other reviews for DC's films, they will know I'm no fan of theirs (with a slight exception to WW) so I hope they take this as a signal to reboot the whole thing.

DC Fans deserve better imo.

Peace.

/K

P.S. WW2 moving forward after Disney slammed SW IX down was a given. It was just a matter of time before they announced it. And ye, good for us :) Less time to wait (even if it is six weeks less :))

Well I just got back from Justice League and let me just say this:
There were enough Amazons to go around.
Some in full armor and some in a little less.
I think everyone will be satisfied.
