I like her as a comedian and she has an interesting look.
I was hoping for a woman with a little more "physical" presence.

Yes, she definitely is funny. Bridesmaids was hysterical. She just doesn't really mesh with the style of the DC Movies. I could see in her in a straight-up parody superhero movie.

She's normally a comedic actress and we view her that way due to SNL and Bridesmaids (etc), but she's actually a good dramatic actress too (I think this is quite common for good comedic actors, they have to be good dramatic actors to make the comedy work .. OTH not all good dramatic actors can do comedy.)

That still doesn't mean that I don't look at this with a bit of skepticism. OTH, Gal Godot and Chris Pine are good comedic actors and that was used in Wonder Woman without going too over the top. I could see them wanting to keep that skill balance on the table.

Most are viewing this as casting more for Barbara Minerva than for Cheetah who is going to be mostly special effects (either CGI or a suit or both.) I sure hope it's not all CGI, it's hard to make that work (which Wonder Woman and Justice League serve as ample example).

Still, it's not on the same level as casting Cate Blanchett for Thor. You'd think that _Wonder Woman_ would be able to pull from that caliber.

But Cheetah is a good choice, as it's probably her or Circe. Most of the other WW villains (Dr Pyscho, Silver Swan, Giganta, etc) just don't have the gravitas to hold a movie.

I did enjoy her in "Welcome to Me", but I think her dramatic chops come from fragility and not from a place of mental and emotional toughness. Of course I could be proven wrong.

I guess the question now is who would you guys want to see as Cheetah? (And really that's far and away the best choice for the villain.)

Cheetah is all about sex appeal and sensuality.

I give you Christina Hendricks

Her dramatic roles have been somewhat limited ("Welcome to Me") or small ("The Martian") as far as I've seen, but there are several examples of past comedians becoming good, if not great, dramatic actors when given the opportunity. I remember when Michael Keaton was cast as the original Batman and people thought it was a joke since all his primary roles -- like Wiig's -- had been comedic to date: Mr. Mom, Gung Ho, Night Shift. Now he's almost exclusively a dramatic actor.

Other ones that have had pretty good success emerging from their comedy/sitcom backgrounds are Robin Williams, Kevin Pollack, and even Jim Carrey. No idea how Kristin Wiig will do in the Cheetah role, but I can easily see her as a nerdy, bookish Dr. Minerva, if they choose that incarnation of her.

If I'm honest, a role like Cheetah (especially considering the DCEU's track record) sounds to me like it's going to be a CGI role- which, regardless of stance on that subject, might actually be a strong suit for Wiig.
After all, she's very expressive with her face, which is great for MoCap characters. Just look at how over-the-top Andy Serkis performed Cesar or Gollum before the computer stuntwork. That is something I could absolutely see Wiig excelling at.

Unfortunately it's not just Wigg that doesn't make much sense but also I'm thinking about all the terrible ways they could ruin (read: puritanize / burqafy) a Cheetah costume, even in CGI. An actress has to be special to be able to pull off wearing a Cheetah costume. Here's someone who can, although we call her Savanna :)

I am still not sure what to think about it.

I'll stick with "she's a talented actress" and "Patty Jenkins seemed to know what see was doing with Wonder Woman 1" (esp when restricting the topic to casting).

At the very least this is a choice I'd NEVER have thought of, and sometimes those odd choices work so much better than the obvious ones. But I'd probably be casting Cheetah in my head and not Minerva.

I'll wait until the movie (or at least actual clips, not just stills) are out before I even considering getting my pitchforks and torches aut of the basement, or even inventorying them to make sure I have enough on hand. I have plenty of time for that later when I have more data to properly evaluate.

IMDB has a "cheetah-trailer" now. If the movie is anything like the originals I'm all for it. Love her attitude www.imdb.com/list/ls053181649/videoplaye...52057?ref_=hm_hp_i_1

First look at Wiig as "Cheetah" in action:

Took me a second to realize this is a video.

And a pretty cool one at that!

Rumor has it that "something" regarding WW 1984 will be shown at SDCC next weekend.  Most likely a teaser (too early for a full-blown trailer as they are still filming).

Peace.
