Ha... same here. If there is a line that extended from the most amazing actress to play a superhuman on one end (and yes, Laura Vandervoort would be a contender), and the absolute worst on the other end, MMC would be anchoring that far end.
I'm not trying to be elitist, but she pushes ALL of my OFF buttons.
But she does have a following, which is why she gets cast. I just don't understand it.
Below is MY idea of a watchable superhuman type (Daniella Pestova).
Shadar

AHAHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHAHAAAA
Well, it finally happened. SUPER SJW superheroines. No male gaze allowed.
AHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAAHAHAA
Now if they had cast Daniella Pestova as you mention Shadar, I would be following this like a hawk lol
As they haven't, hard pass from me too.
Peace.

P.S. Just finished watching Anna, by Luc Besson. Not a superheroine movie, but about a Russian woman who works as a spy while operating as a model. LOVED IT! And it stars an ACTUAL Russian model in Sasha Luss.

So much this. Glad I'm not alone to feel this way.

I wish I was being sarcastic but any critique you posit they'll jump at you with that. That includes Ruby Rose.

(I'm also a bit queasy that with two - let's call them 'extremely stout' - female leads, naming it "thunder-anything" is going to be nothing more than a petty and meanspirited fat joke)

This. I will no longer make a fool of myself by making excuses, just settling or stupidly believing "it can't be that bad".
I wonder though, they do have a choice on the projects they wish to attach themselves, right? They read the scripts. They're adults who can make their decisions or atleast have a say in it.
Why then would they try to shame others for exercising the same.

Normally I wouldn't consider Melissa my type when it comes to our genre. But I have to say it was interesting seeing her throw the car.
The premise of the movie is 2 protagonists against a world taken over by supervillains.
In this other video it show french actress Pom Klementieff throwing some kind of energy ball at Melissa.
So there could be supervillainess too.
Could be a winner
What kind of a name is Pom by the way.
