For those who don't follow the Discord, this morning Shazam: Fury of the Gods director David F. Sandberg posted this image of the Shazam Family in their new costumes. Michelle Borth--who played the adult Mary Marvel in the original film--won't be returning. Instead, Grace Fulton will be pulling double duty, playing both the mortal Mary Bromfield and her empowered alter ego. The movie started filming in late May and is currently slated for a June 2023 release, so it'll be some time til we get any actual footage. Also included is an image of Helen Mirren, who will be playing one of the film's villains, the daughter of Atlas named Hespera. She'll be joined by Lucy Liu as Kalypso and Rachel Zegler's as yet unnamed character. Also, I'm throwing in a close up of Grace Fulton in costume compared to Michelle Borth from the original because why not.

The family as they appeared in the climax of the original film for comparison's sake.

I liked Borth as the super-powered alter ego in the original film. This should be interesting since Grace would be the only one pulling double-duty.
I still like the costume better from the first movie -- feels closer to the original.

It makes sense Mary doesn't look older when she changes, since she is already an adult. She was 18 in the first movie and ready to go to college.

My personal guess is that the difference between the normal form and the superpowered for is an indication of how much that character feels comfortable about his/her own body and self-image.
In the '80s version of the comics it was implied that Cap's looked like an idealised version of Billy and Mary's dad, which meant that Billy might have been subconsciously projecting his desire for a family.
Having Mary as the adult in the family and the only one that doesn't change so drammatically might be an indication that she feels comfortable about her identity, which is usually an indication of maturity.

Thanks for posting all these! I'm looking forward to the movie.
My favorite comic Mary was the 1970s version drawn by Bob Oksner. His Mary was also around 18 in both human and powered form so the lack of an age change doesn't bother me so much. I'm just hoping we get to see her doing the stuff we at SWM life so much!

My first exposure was "The Power of Shazam"... so I had a different entry point.
I wonder why they changed direction. Wasn't Borth signed on for multiple movies?

I think the new costume for Mary (and all of them really) is great! Let's hope the females of the group get a bunch more action this time.

There's some implication that certain political statements made by Borth had a hand in causing WB to cut her loose. While not as extreme as some others, it may have been enough in their eyes. Honestly, it's all speculation at this point. Maybe they felt that Grace could do a better job with what they had planned. My first exposure was "The Power of Shazam"... so I had a different entry point.
