This description of the Woman of Tomorrow world and storyline is pretty intense. Definitely not the Supergirl we know, but I have to admit to seeing lots of possibilities in it, especially if it was done with a Guardians of the Galaxy vibe (given Gunn directed both those movies).

And it certainly sounds as if Gunn is fully invested in the story line. His work on Guardians was excellent, IMHO, especially the first movie, and he's a proven master at giving life to fantastic creatures (who can forget Groot), not to mention powerful females. Zoe Saldana as Gamora was entertaining.

So... an over-the-top Guardians of the Galaxy-flavored kind of movie featuring Kara Zor El, sometimes with her powers and sometimes without, depending on what planet or sun she's under?  In a universe that has been shaped in many ways by Superman, even if she doesn't actually encounter him. None of it set on Earth but on outrageously imagined alien worlds.

And a guy that she's seriously into who can turn himself into a horse?  Don't get me started on that.

This could be a wild ride, no pun intended... and one that has absolutely nothing to do with our Earth or any of our issues.

Could be refreshing, much in the way Guardians was.

Feeling more hopeful...

Sadly I don't think this film will be anything we will fawn over.  Likely a dark haried butch heavy set Samoan with male hatred issues.  I could be wrong.  I'm putting the whisky bottle down.

Take this in jest, I don't want a fight.

Well, given the last genetically-enhanced female he cast in a movie is Zoe Saldana, I suspect he can upgrade fairly easily to a blonde Kara Zor El and her greatly increased powers, not to mention put her in some interesting outfits.

One thing for sure... he'll do things differently than DC has ever done on screen before.

But time will tell if that's good or bad...  I'm betting on at least interesting.

Thinking further into this (which is dangerous), and considering how Guardians of the Galaxy was done (hope the music is as good):

1) We've got this girl with a sword who has sworn vengeance on the man who killed her father.

2) Then we've got Kara, who has this f*cked up background but is trying to get her life together. She decides to go to this red sun planet to celebrate her 21st in a place she can actually get drunk on her ass.

3) She and the vengeance girl wind up in some bar fighting for their lives, and somehow escape.

4) They start traveling around the galaxy in the cheap seats on crappy ships full of interesting characters, searching for the guy who killed the girl's father.

5) Who turns out to be a bad-ass Space Pirate who has this whole pirate ship thing going. He's a really hardcore baddie.

6) A ship that happens to be bristling with weapons and full of card-carrying Space Pirates. Now that her powers are back, Kara has to fight the ship and all the pirates with her bare hands and maybe her friend's sword.

7) Somewhere in all of this journeying around and fighting, Kara falls hard from some guy who spends much of his time as a horse who can fly in space.  (Which begs the question of whether she has the hots for him in both his human AND equine forms. That could get adult in a hurry.)

8) And everywhere Kara goes, people connect her to Superman and instantly love or hate her, depending on what kind of encounter they had with Superman. Seems like a lot of worlds really hate him. And she never knows what she's going to find on a new world, but apparently Superman got around a lot and she has to deal with the consequences everywhere she goes.

9) A fair bit of the action happens on red sun worlds where she has no powers, and so she has to prove herself and survive as an ordinary person. Character building.

What did I miss... or go wrong on?

So to keep the costs down they will milk out her not having powers for half of it. I'm more of a pessimist. I do hope it gets made and is a great success.

Has anyone seen this yet:
The Power - An Amazon TV series.
"A group of teenage girls mysteriously develop a special power that allows them to electrocute people at will."

I'm forever an optimist, but I have to admit, half the fun is speculating what they are doing with new shows like this. They never turn out as I expect.

But I'm adaptable.

Example being Rings of Power. As a Tolkien nerd, I was hoping for something very different than we got (which wasn't very Tolkien'esq), but instead of ragging on it, I decided instead to just enjoy Galadriel at a gut level, given she feeds into my blonde super femme fetish.

She was the baddest ass warrior in the show, and definitely qualified as superhuman, albeit not always very wise. Essentially a male warrior psyche in a hot female body.

It's difficult to write the part of a driven, arrogant, unstoppable and very opinionated female, who can kill a Troll while looking good doing it, without pissing off a lot of people. She wasn't feminine but she was definitely female.

Same goes for Kara in this upcoming DC movie. She won't be what I'd write, or what I'm used to, but she might be entertaining. I usually enjoy other people's imagination.

And there is always the possibility of a scene where she's without her powers and getting the crap beat out of her only to suddenly regain her powers and kick some serious ass. One of the planets she goes to in the comics has a Kryptonite sun, but once it sets she's super again until the next sunrise.

Here's hoping they do something fun with that.

I was thinking the very same. A transient female being, who, on the 'flick of a switch,' becomes an intransient superheroine, much to everyone else's shock and bewilderment. It could be fun to perform, but it would depend on how many of the scenes last (perhaps the opening scenes to set the tone of the film?)

I'm sorry to hear that.

I think we are in the golden age of live-action comic-oriented and superfemme shows and movies. So much of it, everywhere and plenty more to come. The era where powerful women can be shown on media without apology.

After experiencing the relative paucity of such material in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, always wishing that mainstream movies and shows would bend more my way, that era finally came.

Is it perfect? No way. But I never expected it to be.

Does it match my mind's eye of how such movies should be made? No way. These aren't my private channels or studios making only what I want.

But there is SO much stuff out there, every show or movie having at least some parts that are interesting. And while the quality of writing for shows and movies and the messaging is different than what I'd have chosen, it is the culture we live in now. And culture always is changing.

This will pass us by eventually, and there will be little or no material of this type available. Everything has its time and its cycle. Then we'll be complaining again that nobody does stuff with powerful women and comics-derived characters. So enjoy what we have when we have it.

As someone whose fetish for the genre of superwomen was full established in the mid-1960's, this is a great time to be alive.

But then, I grew up in a world where we all wanted the future (however we conceived it) to be better than the past. I've never lost that desire. And as someone who learned to dive under my desk to practice surviving the nuclear attacks that we were sure would come in the 1950's, and being a veteran of both the Vietnam War and the earlier experiments of youth culture and free-love of the mid/late 60's, which fizzled badly, that brighter future has mostly come true.

Especially in this little corner where we can enjoy live-action shows that feature superhuman women.

At least, that's how it looks for someone who has been paying attention to such things for a very long time. But then, I've always been upbeat about the future, and see no reason to stop. I personally think it's the secret to happily growing old. Because the alternatives all suck.
