I do plan to buy it when it's available. Having seen the movie in theaters, I can tell you that everyone on this forum should buy it, even if you don't like the casting choice of Uma Thurman.

The good news is that it seemed to be selling better than Best Buy anticipated. The first day in stores, and their display was already running low on this DVD. It wasn't even on sale, despite the fact that they usually discount new DVD's and CD's the first week they have them, so people were paying the full $19.99 for this. I just assumed that if it wasn't on sale at Best Buy, it wouldn't be on sale anywhere else either, so I didn't bother shopping around. They didn't seem to have started with as big a display as other new DVD's, but at least they're selling. That's a good sign. If this sells well, maybe it can make up for its mediocre showing in the box office, and that'll help keep Hollywood from being too scared to touch this theme again any time soon.
So for those of you who haven't bought it yet, there's your second good reason to do so. The first is that it really is a great "genre" film for ubergirl fans, even if it's not the greatest comedy. As an overall movie, I'd rank it as "kinda cute, but nothing special". It had a couple of funny moments, but not really enough to carry the whole movie. Be sure to watch the credits at the end, as the cartoon during that was the funniest part.

plus an extended shark sequence . YAGS
{sarcasm} WOW REALLY! That makes it all worth while right there. {/sarcasm}
Well ~ it was about the best movie we can hope for from Hollywood ~ but the shark scene was just. Tossing a yellow cab in the window or something from the zoo would have been less "out of left field."

That is to be expected int he final cut, but would be curious if they were changed or left on the cutting room floor and are in the "deleted scenes"
ElF
Did anybody see the deleted scenes? I hear they have more of the character getting used to her powers.

The following deleted scenes are on the disc:
1) Flashback: Barry and Jenny decide on a name for her secret identity.
2) Flashback: Jenny's cheerleader tryouts.
3) Jenny shows Matt her super closet.
4) Defending Jenny's honor.
5) Bedlam in prison.
Only one of them has anything resembling ubergirl action in it.

Thurman struck me as odd casting, but seeing the film she played that part pretty well, and I was wondering what the problem was that certain people had with her...up to the point where she started getting her revenge. The character took a nosedive there, and I would rather have seen her react differently...say, in her grief she loses control of her powers and causes problems that way. Or maybe she could have become a recluse and Faris' character decided to take over for her...the whole psycho thing just made me give up on the character...
Wilson and Faris were good, and of course I especially liked the latter for certain scenes near the end of the film. Her enthusiasm in that final scene (and cry of "YES!!!") was infectious, and I just wish that that side of her character had come along earlier...
However, the film was too short. Lots of ideas were scattered all over the place, most of which weren't developed as much as they could/should have been. Case in point - Barry, an evil mad scientist supervillain...who had at his command a van. And a couple of random guys. And a house. Come on - it's Eddie flippin' Izzard as a mad scientist...who doesn't really do anything. He started going on about rebuilding Matt's car with rocket launchers etc at the end, but more silly stuff like that (and actually seeing it) would have helped...
Other negative...costumes. One or two of Uma's were OK, but the rest were terrible. The thinking behind them seemed to be that less is more, and I don't think it needs to be. You can have a superheroine costume that covers up a lot, and it can still look good, and there can be those that cover very little (Wonder Woman) and look good. But here (like the costumes from the Charmed superheroine episode) the girls are made to look slutty, or occasionally just completely ordinary...
SPOILER PIC:

Look at that - that's just underwear and a cape, isn't it?
Nitpick mode on - why was the bed continually moving backwards and forwards during the supersex scenes? Surely if she's thrusting, there should only be forward motion involved...?
The shark thing was dumb.
Oh, and the theme tune, or whatever you want to call it, was rather pleasant.
The DVD itself is OK, but not surprised by the lack of commentary - presumably the writer couldn't quite bring himself to talk about the various ubergirl websites he'd visited while putting the script together...?

Nothing that exciting. #1 is just a conversation in the car. #2 was kinda cute with her using her flying abilities to extend a flip in the air into a super-long somersault, which is the closest thing to ubergirl action in the 5 deleted scenes. The Bedlam scene worked for me, because as Spulo said, he really should have done more to show his supervillain side.#1 was in the stuff (early drafts) I saw as well as her superspeeding into her costume (from her pajamas). Missed TF stuff was her flying up and breaking a branch off tree (superstrength) and then Barry trying to "fly" thinking he had powers too

Watching the movie on DVD after having seen it in the movie, I decided that it wasn't as cute the second time. Only one of the jokes actually seemed funny the second time around. That's pretty pathetic. So other than the ubergirl action, I'd say this doesn't stand up to repeated viewings.
I have to agree with Spulo's comment that the movie was all over the place. Lots of good ideas and potential that just weren't followed through on.
But I have to disagree with Spulo on a few other things. For starters, I didn't like Luke Wilson in this at all. He kept cutting into scenes with supposedly cute jokes, where it just didn't fit and made his comedic timing seem awful. And as for her going psycho when dumped, that was the point of the movie. So that part did work for me. Except the shark. I can't believe they consider that their highlight scene. From the first time I saw it in the trailer, I thought it was the cheesiest thing they could do with this movie.
The other high point was Anna Faris. Pretty much every scene she was in worked, unless Luke Wilson was cheesing it up. As Spulo said, that final scene with her was great. Too bad they didn't give us a better look at her in that costume, though. It's distant and blurry enough that even with pausing on DVD, you can't get a good look at her, as Spulo's spoiler pic demonstrates.
Anyway, it's still a worthwhile purchase for anyone on this board. But after seeing it again, I have to say that The Awakening seems like the best ubergirl movie of the year, overall, though it's still relatively close.

And why was there a transom window over the bed if there was another apartment on the other side of the wall?
The shark thing was dumb.
Why is everyone dissing the shark? I didn't think it was a master-stroke, but fishing a shark out of the ocean and flinging it through Hannah's bedroom window is the sort of thing a vengeful psycho super-woman might do. Random suggested "something from the zoo" instead. What? A tiger? A rhinoceros? How would that be less ridiculous than a shark?
And I still want to know: How does the super-speed cat-fight look in slo-mo?

The shark chased him around the apartment, trying to bite him! If you take a fish out of water, is it going to be chasing a meal even though it has no control over its motion, or is it just going to flop around on the floor gasping for breath? The shark scene was just a dumb idea from the start. And I haven't even watched the extended version of it yet.

And don't give me the typical "You can accept that she has superpowers, but you have problems with how they portray the shark? It's just a fantasy movie! Stop nitpicking!" line.
A major point in the "suspension of disbelief" that goes with fantasy/sci-fi work is that the audience will go along with a fantastic premise, as long as it is the premise and it makes sense in context. But they will expect that other than the primary fantasy of the premise, everything else should be just like the real world.
For instance, in this movie, gravity affects all of the non-superpowered characters normally. If it didn't, the audience would wonder why not. But they're ok with the superheroine being able to fly, because that's the premise. That's how suspension of disbelief works. The audience agrees to play along with the fantastic premise, as long as that's the only part that isn't realistic.
And I haven't watched the catfight in slow-mo yet. I'll have to try that if I have some spare time this weekend.
