Kara gone from Smallville -- for a while?

16 Nov 2007 17:31 #10902 by shadar
Given last night's episode stripped Kara of both her powers and memories, I did some research on the upcoming episodes that are due to air from now to the end of February. Kara is not listed as being in any of them.

Instead we see Black Canary and Green Arrow and others.

The end of February episode was the last the editors delivered prior to going on strike. My guess is that we'll see some minor snipppets of Kara without her powers and memories, wandering around downtown Detroit (??), but too minor of an appearance to show up in the script summaries.

So... so much for an empowered Kryptonian female on TV. If we're lucky, after the writers return and the final season episodes get made, if that happens this year, we might see her again. We can only hope they have big plans for her after this season, which may be Smallville's last, are over. A spinoff perhaps.

I read somewhere that she's spending most of her time this winter working on the Canadian show(s) she was appearing in before being cast as Kara.

Bottom line... Smallville continues to disappoint.

I guess its back to writing our own fiction and making fan movies.

Yep it was good while it lasted, I was hoping we would get at least a full season of Kara before the inevitable discarding of the character but sadly not, and with Bionic Woman continuing to deliver bad ratings how long before that is pulled from the schedule? It's not been a good week for superwomen :(

Hiya,
I agree with everyone, Kara's lack of appearances in the upcoming shows really blows. But, also, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey now,
Black Canary stepping in and using her MASSSIVE Canary Cry and martial Arts skills isn't exactly a bad thing either. ;) (In fact, I consider that uber within itself that she can literally destroy anything with a single SCREAM!" Oh yea, my pretty doing her thing, yup, yup, yup! :P

Ok black cancery but in my head not in the same league as kara supergirl and laura was close to perfect kara they could be really feel let down almost as much when they killed off in crisis back in oct 85

Black Canary doesn't push many of my buttons either.

I also plan to stop watching the show unless I hear that Kara has returned in an interesting role. I only watched the show for Kara's appearances. (OK... superLana was fun, but too brief).

I can always grab the episode via bit torrent and watch later if I hear of a promising episode.

Maybe if stats decline enough they'll kill it and launch Kara's spinoff. Besides, Michael Rosenbaum (Lex) won't be on show even if it does go into season 8, and I can't see the show working without him. He's been a great Lex.

Tom Welling is useless as Clark/Kal El. I hope to hell he never puts the red and blues on.

Kara, on the other hand, wears enough red and blue in most shows that's she's almost ready for a 'flight uniform'. All the writers have to do is show that her street clothing gets torn up by the slipstream (why it doesn't now, I have no idea) and that she needs something skin tight and aerodynamic.

Ditch the comic-book cape and make the skirt REALLy short (OK... she can wear super-panties I guess, as long as they are thongs) and I'll willingly suspend my disbelief on the fraying hemline thing. <grin>

All of which says we better get cracking on stories, picts and videos of our own.

What's the deal with this sexist crap? Seriously, why are they so scared of giving us a superstrong woman and keeping her that way?

Didn't Lfan say she was supposed to be in something like 13 episodes? MAYBE the writers wanted to put her aside for the duration of the next story arc, then have her make a dramatic return in mid-season -- utimately seting the stage for a Supergirl spin-off ...

And maybe Kelly will update the Steele sites by then.

I like how he thinks, too, but we must prepare ourselves for possible reality. The writer strike could adversely affect Kara's shot at a return, since, assuming they come back to work in time to make new episodes, they'd have to work fast to get the scipts out fast enough for shooting, and in situations like this, low pirority subplots can get left on the cutting room floor. Let's all pray that Kara's subplot is not deemed "low priority" by these writers who seem to have a problem with strong females(would it be too much to ask for some version of Wonder Woman to show up on Ollie's little team? We know from a newspaper headline sometime back that Themyscira exists in the Smallville universe(their ambassador apparently visited the UN)

I too will not be watching Smallville till Kara comes back. Hopefully the writers and creators after their done with the friggin strike will see their rattings drop some and get smart, but I doubt it.

Although we had her for a short time I give a big thumbs up to Miss Vandervoot as Kara Zor-El. :D Thanks for making it fun while it lasted Laura!

Bah, what's it with all this depowering of superpowered women this season? Lana, now Kara, and Nikki from Heroes suffered a similar fate (although I can't see anything "sexistic" behind this; her character wasn't used anyway) ...

Does anyone know what her regular show is or how we could watch it?
If it is a daytime soap, maybe what we need are just a few clips of here looking hot to hold us over during the strike!

The show is Instant Star. The web page link below describes the first 3 seasons. Laura is currently filming season 4. She plays the character Sadie Harrison.

Tell me about it, dude... really stupid moves latelly.

Now,did Nikki really lost her powers?Because the virus/cure thing didn´t work at all, and in the last episode they put up yet another personallity of her. So i guess she will recover her powers (Or die, what wouldn´t be that surprising    )

It's OT, but regarding Nikki: Last episode was about what happened 4 months ago, so Nikki had not yet injected herself the virus which happened in the episode before (2x07) and as the cure didn't work (but the virus did) she is powerless for now ... And I, too, fear that she'll die this season :?

As for Kara, she doesn't appear in the next two episodes (according to spoilers) and she isn't mentioned in any of the spoilers after that so she might or might not appear in them ... which means the earliest possible reappearance of her would be in the Jan. 10th episode, which is the one with Black Canary ... let's talk again in eight weeks

Actually, she's not on the cast list for all the episodes through the end of February -- which is all the writers delivered before the strike.

But it's possible they might slip in a brief scene of her wandering around Detroit, helpless and lost. But if so, it didn't show up in the previews or cast listings for future episodes.

But we can hope... I could envision a great scene where she discovers by accident that she's got this incredible strength and power, not to mention flight ability, but has no idea why, how or who she even is. Could be fun.

But I'm guessing the writers thought it would be cool for the Blue K to eliminate her abilities for a while and have her experience life on Earth as a normal (in this case, helpless) human so she'll appreciate us more. Or some BS like that to 'humanize' her.

Personally, I've seen all the humans on TV I want to see. I wanted to see someone put some thought into what a Kryptonian would be like who wasn't raised as a human, and then have Laura try her best to act that role out. That looked like where they were going for a bit.

But alas... I think the writers have decided to get her into this 'being human' thing so she always holds back, like Clark. That's consistent with the old SG comics.

The new comic book series (which the SM writers claimed they were going to try to stay reasonably true to) had an episode where her attempt to disguise herself and live like a human lasts about 15 minutes. She can't stand to be confined in such ways, especially after being trapped inside that chunk of Green-K for decades.

In the comics, she's Kryptonian and she makes no apologies for that. She's also got a bit of her father's darkness in her. Clark can't control her. That works for me.

I don't know what cast list exactly you are referring to; I was talking about the one from kryptonsite and as far as I know, not being mentioned on the cast list for future episodes does not necessarily mean she *isn't* in the episode ... the guys writing the spoilers just don't know yet. Also it was planned that she was going to be in about half the episodes of this season; so I don't think they'll leave her out of 7 consecutive episodes. *hopes* But then again with the writers of SV you never know ...

And that was exactly what I liked about her in the first episodes where she didn't really hold back her powers and did not play Clark's "I have to fit in -- so let's be a wussy" game. But in the last two or three episodes she was in she was adapting more and more to Clark's ways and was taught that she was wrong a couple of times. (About going to Washington alone, about not listening to Clark, about her father, etc.)

Hm. So maybe with that (incredibly stupid and absolutely clichè) amnesia she might be getting back to her old self and kick some ass once she got her powers back :) (it's not even exactly clear that she has lost her powers, but of course it was strongly suggested when she knocked on that door.)

At least thats good news that Kara hasn't been completely forgotton, however it sounds like she is still powerless in Episode 13, not good news. And why is it that Kara always needs saving, in episode 6 she did, in episode 8 she did and now in episode 13. We wait 7 seasons to see a proper Supergirl, who then needs saving every other episode, and for the majority of the season she is powerless. I can't say i'm a fan of Smallville just at the moment. GRRRRR

I'm actually not so negative about how things have gone. It has been a huge few months for the fans.

Maybe BW wasn't up to everyones hopes, but it was still main stream fun and has some legs left.

Smallville ~ I knew going into it that they wouldn't let her steal the show. The couldn't let her do that. I'd almost argue that she came closer than they wanted which might get us that spin off. We'll see. If you think about it even Clark's character hasn't been ALL that super in this series.

hi everyone,

i agree with random in way it has been most superfemale year on small screen for many a year and i read that kara will now in esp before Fracture and she thinks her name is linda. Although disappointed in blue i enjoyed see kara in smallville and i think laura is superb actress and some is quite well written also i do feel that although like many here am disappoint in way blue turned out in end for heroine i do feel that sure and in fact would surpised if didnt have superpowered kara (supergirl) back proably end hero or two season finale esps how often in comics has supergirl lost her powers than got back or even clark has lost before odd esp

anyway i living in hope that we see supergirl back in action early next year
