Small-screen Ubergirl character list

Like the thread in the comics section I thought we could have a list for all the superwomen seen on tv over the years, giving info on their powers and best scenes. Even if you just add a character who had powers for a scene or two and didn't even do anything with them, there must be more than enough tv ubergirls for us to keep this going for a while...

So I'll start this with one of my faves...

Linda Simmonds (Deborah Grant), a young and extremely beautiful secretary who is turned into a superwoman by aliens.

Show

UFO (1969/1970)

Episode: The Psychobombs

Synopsis: The aliens turn three ordinary humans (two men and a woman) into superbeings (or 'psychobombs'), and use them to attack various SHADO bases and craft.

The two men are used to destroy a SHADO base and submarine by exposing themselves to high-voltage electricity cables, which (combined with the massive amounts of energy the aliens have instilled in them) causes them to explode.

Linda's target is SHADO HQ itself...

Powers

Mainly super-strength, which she uses to

- strangle a policeman with one hand.

- accidentally crush a telephone when she gets flustered.

- cave in a man's skull with her bare hands (off-screen, but I do love the evil expression on her face just before she does it)

- do some general throwing-people-around stuff.

The aliens are also able to use her womanly charms to seduce SHADO's second-in-command. It's implied that she might be bullet-proof as well.

One of the men is also able to strip, copy and precisely reproduce the skin from someone else's fingertips on his own (so he can use the prints) just by touch. This is very messy and very painful for the victim.

Status

Deceased. The UFO controlling her is destroyed, stripping her of her powers seconds before she electrocutes herself in SHADO HQ.

Thoughts

Great episode of a great series and a fine performance by Deborah Grant. One moment Linda's the sweetest girl ever, the next she's under alien control and looks totally sinister. There's also a couple of moments where she's somewhere between normal and possessed, as if there's a part of her that knows what's happening and is trying to fight it, that are very well played.

It also helps that she's extremely beautiful and that the camera gets a really good look up her skirt at one point.

SWM story potential

Quite high, I think. Sure she's dead at the end of the episode, but what if she recovers in the SHADO morgue afterwards, and she still has the limitless strength the aliens gave her but is free of their control? What would SHADO do with her, what would she want to do, and how would she cope with learning about the people the aliens had her kill?

Could the weapon the aliens created to destroy SHADO be turned against them?

Anyway, someone else's turn...

Excellent synopsis, great photos, and a good pick. This episode, along with the one where the aliens stopped time [Timelash], are probably my two favorites from that show. Plus, I dug Straker's cool car with the gull-wing doors :)

The I, Mudd episode of the original Star Trek series featuring super strong android women who are "fully functional" at physical pleasure. :D

Mudd send's the androids up to the Enterprise to capture the crew and beam them down to the planet. In one scene, a female android drags Scotty by the arm into a room and with one arm, casually flings him into the arms of Captain Kirk.[/url]
