Smallville setting us up again....

...for potential ubergirl disappointment, but I'll report it anyways/

Casting notices for "Alia" indicate she is a "beautiful, sexy femme fatale assassin with mysteriously intimate ties to Clark and Krypton." She's an expert fighter, especially with a throwing star and a sword. They're looking for a martial arts background, and this role will recur.

Monique Ganderton, an actress who has also served on Smallville as Cassidy Freeman's stunt double, has apparently been cast in the role of "Alia."

Now the GOOD news is speculation that the role of "Alia" is really that of Faora or (gulp) Ursa, especially with Zod being in the forefront this season. We can only hope that she plays she Kryptochick...

Finally, as mentioned, Ms Ganderton is a stuntwoman/actress by trade, and you've probably seen her before as a another semi-ubergirl. Fanboys, take a 'gander at Ganderton' in action:

Well....season premiere of Smallville Season 9 aired tonight and basically was a setup for the upcoming season.

If you were hoping that a superpowered Kryptonian bad girl appear this season, it appears you've hit the jackpot. I won't give away the plot details but there is a whole cadre of Kryptonians -- males and females -- lying dormant (no powers as of yet which they haven't explained 'why' yet).

Two females -- one being the aforementioned Alia -- seem to figure prominently in this season and should get some decent screen time along with two male Kryptonians (Zod and Basquet??)

Little show of some female powers in this episode (yeah, I know I said they were dormant, but its a little complicated) but nothing much in the strength category, but we can hope.....
