Yahoo news just reported it, too, so the news hit the big time: tv.yahoo.com/blog/david-e-kelley-bringin...er-woman-to-tv--1609

But... the creator of Ally McBeal, Boston Legal, and The Practice is behind this?!?!?!? WTF??? That can't be good.

And the story talks about female led action films always failing, and mentions some successes on TV. As usual, they seem to forget that the movies failed due to lousy scripts, not the fact that the lead was female. Angelina Jolie has proven that a female lead can have a successful action movie. Elektra and Catwoman just failed because they were horribly done, not because the main characters were women.

Great news, fingers crossed it gets beyond the idea stage. If nothing else it might generate some media interest or perhaps even a debate about the lack of superheroines in films/TV.

It would be very cool to get a proper Wonder Woman Series. But IMHO it will heavily depend on the actress they are going to use.

So let's hope they DON'T use some over tanned bimbo with fake boobs. Wonder Woman needs to be a natural (tall) 'girl next door' kinda woman in her early thirties.

yeah yeah, me too

My only concern is that they will OBVIOUSLY underpower her, specially if it´s from the ally mcbeal creator. we won´t have a demi-godess with the strenght of Hercules (or is it Atlas?), it will probably be the Buffy Season 1 strenght level :(

...And that's exactly what bothers me. :x
I would like to see a Tall, sexy and strong Wonder Woman, with a huge chest, lifting and throwing cars in every episode, not a champion of Kung Fu !

This is what the new costume is supposed to look like? Black tights or black leggings?

Quite frankly, unless they focus on the powers, we will all be disappointed. Unfortunately, what they will do is "chickify" her. Instead of letting her revel in her power, she will worry about fitting in, whether she gets asked on a date, how her personal life is really being shortchanged because she doesn't fit in, etc.

Why won't they give us a strong woman who doesn't need a shrink?

I Kinda like the 'costume', but like many I'm afraid they are going to make the series more 'girl friendly' so in result less sexy.

I also like the costume, but agree that its unlikely we will see the kinds of feats of strength we like on TV.

The tiny glimpses we saw on Smallville (bending jail bars and ripping doors off cars) are about it. The key is that strength or invulnerability is unlikely to be a focus, but rather the woman's relationships that will be features, ala the Smallville soap opera.

That's what sells soap, as they say.

I read a number of comments about Kara on Smallville where the "mainstream" fans thought she was overly powerful and cartoonish. Clearly Tom Welling's angst is what really turns them on.

Bleedingcool.com is reporting a story from another website that actress Tanit Phoenix is being considered for the lead role. She recently appeared in Lost Boys: the Thrist.

How can WB/DC be looking for a lead actress, when they can't even find a network that will even buy a script from them?

They're probably not worried because it'll probably be on CW seeing as they co-own it.

If it goes anywhere else, I'd be shocked.

If it is going to the CW, why hasn't the CW announced it yet? You would think that they would pick up such a high profile project and annouce that they have ASAP.

Well, I'm glad to see Megan Fox won't be the new WW. And it sounds like Lynda Carter has been talking to the makers of the new show, so I wouldn't be surprised to see her do a cameo, at least. But like others here, I'm expecting to see WW toned down, both in power and in a less flashy costume, which will be disappointing.

Why would you right now? A pilot needs to be developed or at the very least written and also, it's right in the middle of the new TV season. I'd rather they confirm it later then just announce it now so that there is a tonne of promotion and build up going into it rather than people hearing about it now and forgetting about it by 2011.

At the most, the promotion buzz'll start when Smallville ends. If not, and if the pieces are in place by then, March 2011 makes sense.

I'm still skeptical that the project will go foward. No network has even paid for a script yet. The last project Kelley worked on, never it made past the pilot stage.

Since we seem to mostly be skeptics whether it will be done right or even done, perhaps we should put this thread to bed for a while and just see what happens.

We're not going to influence the outcome of something we don't even think is happening.

Superherohye.com has posted an interview with Kelley himself from Zap2it.com about the WW tv project. Kelley pretty much says there is now deal inplace for the show and he has not even begun to write a script. He dosn't even know if is he is even the right kind of person for the project to begin with.
